I am going to give my 2 cents on these trucks. Were they quick in the day: yes. Are the quick by today’s standards: no. Anyone who thinks they can buy a $5000 vehicle and outrun their buddy's new 5.0 mustang is living in la la land. Can they be very quick: absolutely, but it will take money and time.

I have about 20K in my truck now, and it is a fun to drive mid 11 truck, with A/C. I take it for what it is worth, very fun on the street, but not as cool, as say a 1969 camaro. I have always wanted one of these because I remember it from time in the Army and during my college days right after the Gulf War, but I am under no delusion that they will ever be worth any big money.

We have, basically, an s-10 or blazer with a body kit, which is what 99% of people will think, but I still think they are badass.

I don't know if this is in response to another thread , but my 2 cents is that these trucks are more than a glorified s-10/jimmy . What they represent and the era of time they capture are what your grandkids grandkids will tell stories about . More than just a myth , regardless of their widespread popularity .

For me, it's less about the sheer performance and more about the rarity and the uniqueness of them. It's no secret that there are MUCH cheaper ways to go fast (there were dozens of ways to do that in 1991), but I have no desire to own 1 of a bajillion SVTGTSS Evomarostangs. Some do....some don't. I have no problem either way. But if it's my money.....it'll be spent on a rare truck that hasn't seen sunlight in 5 years that could haul ass if it didn't stay broke in the garage.

For me, the uniqueness, quickness, and style. I never get tired of looking at these trucks (especially Syclones). They're damn sexy.

Couldn't agree more! Yeah there is a lot of cars out that are faster but how often do you see another SyTy on the road??? Never! (at least for me anyways!) I'd much rather drive something that nobody else has than have the fastest Mustang which you see 100x a day.

That's exactly how I tell the average joe what my Sy is....:banghead:
Although I do stick "turbo awd" "less than 3k made" ect.. in there too.

You have spiked my curiosity...what vehicles now go 0-60 in 4.3 seconds (dry road OR wet) for under $30,000? Care to elaborate.....

For me it's also about having something different and unique, although I do own a new 5.0, just love the current styling of them.

I've always been a huge fan of the GM turbo's from this era, this being my third.

And let's not forget about the "community."

Could I live without it? Probably. Am I a "known member" after 10 years, 3 trucks and 6,000 posts? I think so. Best of all, I find it amusing and educational nearly every day.

Must say that's a loaded question though. What's $30,000 in 1991-1993 compared to $30,000 now. In 1990 the ZR1 debuted for $27k. What's a base ZR1 go for nowadays? My guess is that it would be somewhere along the lines of a Porsche Cayenne in todays standards.

4.6 was my undersanding, but point was the cool factor. I love my truck, and could whip my buddie's '69 camaro, but it will never be as cool. I have been to a few car shows, and unless you know what you are looking at, it is just a cool looking s-10, just trying to be realistic.

Ah, I see your point. They will always be cool to me. The Aspen gives me goosebumps everytime I get near it. Not many know them for what they are until they are humiliated by one in front of all their friends. Then the inquiries begin and the schooling ensues. Given enough time and races, generations will learn to respect them.

At first it was about the trucks. Then I meet Hood like 15 years ago.

If you've never meet him, well then.... Im sorry, you are missing out....but you'll have your chance at Nats.

Car and Driver has the mitsu at 4.6

Regardless...Randys point still resonates with me. I still like my truck, but long for something *else*

Close enough. Buy you a newer Z06. It will curb your appetite for anything else for a good while.....other than more victims and more curves ;).
