Running... but code 43 EST ? HELP!!!!

Hey fellas...

Got the new motor up and running but I can't shake the code 43.

It came on right at startup. Before I set base timing.

When I did disconnect the tan/blk wire to set timing it did make a differene and I set the timing to 0deg.

Plugged it back in.. disconneced the battery and the 43 came back on.

Took the module out and had it tested.. (it was ok) They replaced it anyway..

did not make a difference. I do have a new Knock sensor. (Jeff said that does not matter)

Grounds?.... One on drivers side rear head and one on T-Stat housing.. (plus one main)

Nothing has changed since the happings at Sy/Ty nats........?

ECM/ECMB fuse good... Suggestions?

I need help getting the Autoprom/Tuner pro setup so I can set some fuel tables differently.

The camshaft change and heads ect has changed alot of how it needs to be fed fuel.

it's now lean on the part throttle and rich at idle... Needs more fuel at mid to top too.

Sure sounds good... Just need the 43 solved and fuel tables set right.. after that I can

play with Ign. timing.

Anyone close to Indiana that knows Tuner Pro? Autoprom?

Thanks for any help...> Scott~

Re: Running... but code 43 EST ? HELP!!!!

Since that is the ONLY part of that system that I've replaced I'd wondered the same exact thing.

I talked to Jeff (JS) and he said that that would not set the code.. but from what I rememberd it sure would.
Thanks for the link.. I'll follow the trouble tree and see what I've got. I still have the old sensor. I figured I'd replace it while it was easy access.. Stupid me huh...

Thanks again, Scott~

I have been wrong before, still check out what Leroy said.

You might short-cut to the DC voltage measurement part of the troubleshooting guide. If the harness was recently R&R'd, the knock sensor wire might have gotten broken.

Re: Running... but code 43 EST ? HELP!!!!

I chased this code on a TBI truck years ago that was had a 5.7L in it and the guy installed a BBC and left the TBI on it. It kept coming up with 43 because it could not get the knock sensor to ping. With enough Ignition lead it kept it away.

I'm also wondering about the part where it says in the trouble tree or code setting perameters about it being under load
"High engine load baised on MAP Vs RPM"
With the cam tha is in the engine and the port work bigger valves ect... it's alot different at idle and all over the board.
The AFRs are very high now at idle where they were fine before. (more vaccume stock)
The lower vaccume will be seen as "load"
Timing moves according to the scan tool.
I'll check the Knock sensor here later today.. I've got customer work to catch up on since I've spent alot of time latley finishing this truck.
Thanks again... Scott~
I appreciate your input Jeff... Was not in any way insinuating you were wrong. I just remembered the several times in the past that the knock sensor line had bitten me as a mis-diagnosed Module.
I was going off memory... and sense the Knock sensor was the only thing different...
I just want that code to clear up and have help getting familiar with Autoprom/Tuner Pro.
Ready to have this project wrapped up. ALOT of time put into it.

Re: Running... but code 43 EST ? HELP!!!!

Update... I had time just now to unplug the new sensor and run a ground to the old Knock sensor that I kept and plug it in. (cleared the code first) Started it up and no check engine light... Whew.. What a releif !!!! I also checked the voltage to the knock sensor lead 4.98V so all wires are good.

So... Code 43 is directly knock sensor related... I'm just going to put the old one back in for now till I can buy a new GM sensor... Sometimes the aftermarket stuff just isn't worth messing with I guess.

Cool... I'll put a few more test miles on her today before heading down to Jeff's on sunday for a crash course in Code 59 and Autoprom/tuner pro.....
Heather is going to be back in her truck Monday!!!!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!
Scott..

Thanks for the diagnostic link Leroy... THat realy helped!
