I used to have one but then i got rid of it because it is a piece of S***. I have heard they play CD-R cd's and what not, but i have also heard that they dont. So it goes both ways. If you can, try one and figure it out. But if I were you, dont get it if you already haven't, or sell it, and get a new one.

Ok looks like this thread is slightly off topic so I have a question about the Pioneer 1.5 din's. Are any of them able to read / play CD-R or MP3 burned disks? I was told no but wouldlike to be sure.

When I had one a few years back it wouldn't play any burnt cd's at all and forget about mp3s.. don't think they've updated them or added those features yet

my DEH-P86DHR plays CD-R, but not MP3.

Thanks for the info guys. I called the tech department at Pioneer and they said id it will play a CD-R your lucky cause it shouldn't / wasn't really designed too. MP3 was a absolute "No way". They may update next year but he said the price will double if it goes CD-R / MP3. I wish someone made a decent 1.5 DIN that would play CD-R's and MP3. Oh well I guess I just keep my Kenwood.

One thing that may be a factor: I burn all my audio CDs using a Sony stand-alone audio CD recorder (not my computer). This method requires a specific blank CD (part of Philips patent/licensing agreement). It has to have a "digital audio" logo (and has special formatting or the Sony will reject it). This may be why the Pioneer will play them. Can't say I've ever tried a computer-burned CD-R in it.
