if you have the original star wars trilogy we need to talk

I have it, mint widescreen collector's edition. Gotta love three discs per movie times 2 sides in CAV. Even came with a hard backed book, "The Creative Impulse" by George Lucas. Is it worth something? Didn't think that laser discs were worth anything these days...

Re: Pioneer laser disc player

We (sony) were the second largest producer of LD's when I started in 1992. It was a hot item at 10k/discs per day (compared to 2M DVD's/day and 1M Blu-Ray/day now). We discontinued LD production in 1995 with the final episode of "the three stooges". I still have that plaque on my office wall. Still have a huge box of LD's and a couple of players.

Problem with LD's is an effect called "laser rot" which occurs when the resin used to glue the two half discs together began eating in to the aluminum reflective layer. It would produce a defect called "starburst" and eventually made the picture look like it was filled with static. All old LD's have varying degrees of this problem.

I'm a wealth of useless information regarding round, flat, shiny things.......
