Pictures of my new FMIC

So the Front Mount Intercooler I had custom built by Spearco came in yesterday. I have to be honest and say that I am less than blown away by the quality of the product I received. The core has numerous dented fins and is more white than aluminium (oxidation from sitting on a shelf I guess). To top it off, the inlet tube is dented. The dented inlet tube can be fixed easily enough, and the core will still work just fine. Someone from Spearco is supposed to call me back to discuss the details. I just can't catch a break anywhere, I suppose.

Anyway, here are the pics:

Should fill the grill opening in quite nicely :)

LOL, nah, I'm a pussy cat :)

The front mount cost me about $1400 + shipping.

As for the beer, next time you're in town, I'll be glad to buy the first round. :)

I understand the diapointment you pay a good chunk of money and expect an awsome part. I ordered calipers for an annaversarry edition t/a for my ls1 upgrade kit. The parts guy sayed they were powdercoated black (that is why I got them) paid 30 extra each and they look like they were spray with flat black painted they have some small scratches on them (powdercoat doesnt scratch very easily I thought and i was also under the impression it was shinny?) Just a bummer.

On a lighter note anybody spray there A2A with C02???

I tried Belle. When I asked them for an estimate of build time and cost, they seriously replied "At least 2 months, and a lot". I guess they just didn't want the project

As for spraying the IC, I may do just that, in an attempt to get consistant intake temps

Damn...thats alot of denero for an IC. :dizzy: Make some really good measurements of it and I'll have my buddy's speed shop fabb it up for you with one of the cores that are bar and plate from china. They work great and are good quality.I was scepticle til I ran them . I've run several and still do. Total costs....500.00$.( 250 core,250 work)
Thats a grand you can throw down on other go faster goodies. :2cents:
I guess your not smiling Matt due to the cost/disappointments ?

why don't you take some measurements and have him make a few.. could probably sell a bunch.. I'm fairly tired of my upper IC leaking coolant everywhere.. not that i'm ready to go A2A but i've thought about it thats for sure.

Thats a possibility. His fab table is huge and he does production runs of all types of tubular Camaro suspensions and IC's and tubing builds.
I guess deciding on Dims and final size of an Ideal IC is needed firstly. :2cents:

are you talking about thes guys???

Those are the guys I spoke with.

As for having someone else reproduce the piece, I would be glad to take measurements for anyone who would like them. However, please jkeep the following in mind:

1) Finding a core this size was far and away the hardest part. I spoke with a number of shops including Bell and PTE, and no one had a core this big. The core itself is 33x13x3.

2) The only reason this thing will fit in my truck is I am using one of Chris Keith's Aluminium core supports.

3) Unless you are planning on going very fast, all an IC this size will do is slow you down.

Let me know if you guys still want dimensions :)

Re: Pictures of my new FMIC

So just got off the phone with one of the guys at Spearco. He asked for a bunch of pictures, which I sent him, and said that if the IC is as described, they will make me a enw one. THAT is how this is supposed to work :)
