I had a SW dist and it left me dead on the freeway a lil more than a year after
I bought it. Went with a Richporter which is a new dist with a lifetime warranty
from a place on ebay. That was 4 years ago. The RP dist looks just like OEM
and came with a high grade ICM. I had to use the s10 as the make when
using their on-line catalog. Mine is a 92 and not forced air but a TBI. I don't
know if this will fit in your engine but I would think it would. RPT's number is
GM23. What a difference a new good quality dist made on my old ST.

I've gotten several rock auto distributer (new) and they have fixed several trucks with the same issue. A bad map sensor will also keep it from starting but you would have spark.

Richporter Technology GM23 New Distributor

they are about $110-$120.

It does not list compatible with the typhoon, but it is good for every other 4.3 from our generation of engine so that should not be an issue. When I put this engine in the truck back in '99 I put the dist from the previous OE engine in it, so I am sure it is due for a changing even if it isn't the fix ( 21 year old dist and icm). I may pick up a new coil as well.

When I had issues, they where misses, a lack of power, and finally after long
crank over times it would lite off. When I pulled it, I was pretty amazed it even
did start as the bushing was simply shot. The play in the side to side was horrible.

I tried a Skip White dist and it didnt last at all. Also with a SW dist, one has to locate
the blue FORD style pickup coil should it go bad. Also the screws that hold the pickup
assy where not tight which allowed an decrease in air gap and finally the face of the
pickup started getting nicked by the reluctor messing up things nicely..so no more SW
for me.

I'm very happy with the RPT I have in mine, but perhaps the reman GM dist you've listed
might be a best bet. Surely a new coil won't hurt.

I may be mistaken on this, but I think I saw that O'reilly's Auto Parts carries some Richporter.

i've had it happen to me twice in 2 different trucks, 1 didnt start after standing still for 3 mo, the other truck i fixed today i bought not running, and didnt have any spark as well.

replaced coil, ignotion module, etc with no result.
after that i swapped distrubitors (knock of msd's) and they would fire right up...what else is there in a distrubitor that can really go bad except ignition module cap and rotor or gear?

Basically same situation. I am sure it is the distributor, but haven't had time to replace it. New ign module did nothing. I did walk out a few weeks ago and it started up and ran for about 5 seconds. I guess some rust from the dist must have fell onto the right spot for it to hit over for a few revolutions. Same thing happened to my 91 blazer about 15 years ago and a new dist fixed it.

This truck has been with me around 15 years, and it is one of 7 other cars I have, so it isn't a priority. Eventually I will get out there and drop a dist in it. Upper intake makes it a pain to get to. I need to replace the yoke seal on the rear axle as well. My only fear is by the truck sitting, the trans seals could possibly dry out.
