No start

I know, another one of these threads

Fuel at fuel rail.
All fuses good.
Cranks over great (pretty new battery).
Put a grounded plug on the end of one of the plug wires and getting no spark.
Pulled cap and rotor and cleaned them up some (Not really concerned in replacing them at the moment since the truck does not even attempt to start).
Pulled ignition module and had it tested several times in a row and passed every time (even when they got it warm).

Basically, I drove this thing home probably 4-6 months ago and parked it. Today I decided I wanted to drive it down the street and it doesn't even make a sputter. I get no tack flutter while cranking. I tested the coil using the method found on another no spark thread, and it appears to test fine as well. Also, not new to syty, I put this engine in my self 12-13 years ago.

I am thinking pick-up coil maybe? I wish I had a spare distributor to drop in and try. I had a similar issue happen 10 years ago on my 91 blazer and a new distributor was the fix.I am still also skeptical about the tests they performed on the module. Anyone had a module test good and it actually be bad?

Re: No start

i had the same thing happening to me, first i thought it was the module (alot of people seem to had problems with it), swapped it without a cure, dropped in a new dist. and it ran fine (pickup coil was the only thing left that could be wrong).

Re: No start

Pick up coil can be checked with the distributor still installed. Disconnect pick up coil connector from module. Use an ohm meter across the wires. 500-1,500 ohms. Wiggle the wires, should not change value. Also check each wire to ground of the distributor. Should be infinite.

I will try all of these when it warms up.

Re: No start

I had something very similar happend to my Ty. My Ty just went dead while I was driving to work as if someone turned off the key. I too thought, spark, air, and fuel. Turns out I was not getting any spark. Checked my ignition mod, coil, and cap and rotor. Nothing seemed to be wrong. I simply replaced the entire distributor (175 @ AZone) and she started right up and has ran fine ever since.

Re: No start

Does everyone just use a reman, or are there any other options people prefer?

Re: No start

My 92 Blazer went through 3 or 4 of those Auto Zone modules, they always checked good on their machine too. I've read that one symptom of a bad module is no flutter of the tach needle while trying to start.

Re: No start

Had a few minutes this evening to look at the truck.

I pulled the vacuum tube from the intake and shot some starting fluid into the intake and it actually turned over a couple of times. Now I am really confused. Fuel is at the fuel rail, and apparently it is getting some kind of spark for it to hit over a few times on starting fluid. I still noticed the tach is not moving much, even when it hit over a few times, it never really fluttered like it used to when cranking.

Any ideas now that I it has hit over a little bit? Does the pick up coil tell the engine when to fire the injectors or the spark or both?

Re: No start

Ignition module.Tach should hit hard cranking. You could put one in your pocket at a junkyard.

Re: No start

I had them test mine several times at autozone. Even when it got hot, it was still passing. I will just buy a new one and see what happens since It is an easy part to replace.

:haha: A parts fetching monkey @ Autozone tested my starter with a broken bendix and said it was fine.

Re: No start

distributor mine acted like this awhile ago if i took a hot wire and zapped the intake manifold it would start and run fine till i took it for a drive thats when i pushed it three blocks. i would try a distributor for sure.

Re: No start

Bad fuel OR moisture in it :dunno:

I would toss a bottle of HEET in the tank for good measure.

Re: No start

I put a couple of gallons of fresh gas in it, because it was low anyhow. Even with bad gas it should "try" to hit a time or two I would think? It does nothing but crank, but with the the fluid, I get some rumble, just enough to burn off the little bit I spray in the manifold.

Makes me wonder if the "Ignition Control Signal or Fuel Control Signal" circuits could be bad. Maybe that is why it still triggers the coil, but not the fuel.Might be a pin that autozone doesn't test?

Re: No start

Ignition module..

New module, no change.

Time to pick up an entire distributor and try that out. What is the easiest way to install? I already plan to unbolt the rear trans mount and jack it up to give me some room on the firewall. I might pull the EGR out of the way as well.
