Never ending debate

Re: Never ending debate

Everyone has their own reasons i guess. But just to add to the conversation here is my reasoning.

CHEAPER

That is all it really came down to. I make the same power (dont have numbers to back this up yet) with this build as I would have with an oddfire turbo motor but probably spent 10k less.

I went RWD because I was afraid if I did make any serious power I was going to start breaking parts under the truck and that as well will lead to a very tall bill, especially if it takes out other parts.

Just some food for thought.

When people say "why not build a S10 then" that is very simple to answer. Because i did not want an S10. Do you tell people who put V8's in a fiero to build 3rd gen camaro's because they put a different motor in them? That just doesn't make sense to me.

I personally would never do what your doing to your Ty to my Sy (or another SyTy). Your not building your Ty for me, so what do I care. You have gone pretty far interms of modifying in that it would be hard to bring back to an AWD Turbo, I suspect it will affect resale value. Its your Ty and your money. My mods haven't been helped my resale value either of what was a clean low mile Sy.

Re: Never ending debate

Cheaper works both ways.

It would have been cheaper to buy an S10 roller, a set of Paul's Select cladding and then drop in the V8 2wd 4 link whatever.
At the end of the day whatever you built would be worth MORE than the S10 you started with.
You could potentially raise the value of the vehicle in this manner.

I don't think that is the case with a specialty vehicle like a SyTy, GN, TTA etc.

Then again I don't know many folks buying cars as investments, it is a hobby to all of us.

Except warmpancakes and his Mopars and custom VANS.

Is it me or Silly is getting alot of BS because his ty is rwd? I don't think resale is on his mind.
Funny that some of you have never talked shit about Mike's(rpm) typhoon? Do you guys like that one?

Naw he's not taking shit over it.

This debate has been going on for years and Mike was heavily involved in some of those blast sessions back then.
Ever since he made the decision to go V8 he keeps bringing it back up every so often.

Makes for good ratings

Silly just get it to the Track and Put that BITCH UP ON THE BUMPER

I've shown you pics... you see how the rear wheels/tires fit... I think I am going to have to change that.... first couple passes will have to be made without the cladding there, just don't see how I will not rip it off :(

I am V6, 279ci.

I jsut bring it up because its an interesting debate that will never end. I like to hear other opinions. Not just talking about my truck either but all.

Look at Tom Ferrick's truck. That truck on an evenfire motor, small T66 turbo went into the 9's and was RWD. I really like that truck too.

Sorry, I meant RWD, brain fart

the AWD vs RWD debate goes back even further than the V8 debate...

Very true.

But the way I look at it is, look at Robert and Hoover and Ed Hess....

You can make so much power but you really get to a point where not only is the AWD slowing you down but it also puts your safety at risk as it seems most of these insane fast awd trucks have problems going straight.

wheelie bars, and a chute, nothings better than pulling into a cruise night with a car that carries laundry on the bumper and needs it

You can't turn a jimmy into a typhoon or a s15 into a syclone. It's just a clone.

and if its a prototype? guess thats a clone too, though it predated the real thing.....

Re: Never ending debate

Robert's truck launches straight and smooth.

It's not the hard jumpy launch we saw out of Hoovers and Guy Lavys trucks back in the day.
Remember Andrews 20" Ty doing the right hand turn launch at Nats?

I think some of them have problems with putting lockers in the front diff.

Re: Never ending debate

...man, this forum is getting real "open-minded" as time passes (Heck, wouldn't

s`prise me to see some good-ole-boys here vote for Hillary with this kinda group hugging  )

-so how much "parts" make it a Sy or Ty? Answer: 1, Da Vin Number.
-will members "scream" if an owners uses it for drag racing, hill climbing,

autocrossing, demolition derby, sand racing, or Pizza Delivery? Answer: Yep.
BTW did anyone figure out whether "the orange/black Ty was gonna be LIFTED"?
-does the "herd" mentality of using a build recipe make sense? Answer: Depends on $$$$ in yer pocket.
-is it "better" to maintain factory kind of stuff? Answer: Only if you want a museum piece in 2091.

For my money, I get a kick outta Woz`s Ty (and John Gerbers "salvage" Ty;
and Dean`s old rwd Ty; and Mikes wheel standing Ty; and Tom F.`s 9 sec Ty;
and Ty`s with crazy paint jobs; and the Polish 9 sec Ty; etc) all because
they AINT like Black/Black Sy`s. If ya see one factory Syclone,
you pretty much seen em all! 1, 2, or a hundred all look da same.
And Im a car nut! (eg. Hey Mommy, it that OUR Truck...or is that OUR Truck?)
Like "blow up" dolls....if you buy 1 .... or "party" with 20 its pretty much the SAME experience! BORING!

....uh, I dont claim to actually have experience in this last area, though!

Silly, it seemed you were pickin onme. Obviously you dont read many of my posts or you would know htat I only read half of what people say then get histerical  I wasnt trying to start a bashing session honest. Anyway, back to your first post, a Mustang with an SBC is lame IMO, WHHYYYY????? Thats like putting a V-Tec in a Corvette, well, sort of. I dont really think I am a purist because my truck is not stock but I tend to believe that there are 3 things that make a SYTY what it is, V6, Turbo and AWD. Just my opinion and Im being nice about it now ;)

Sorry if it seemed that way, anyone could have made the comment. No harm meant :)

But to confuse matters even more... I think I enjoyed my stock syclone more than I have my "typhoon".
