Never ending debate

No I meant S15. It was my humorous way of saying that its not a SY w/o a turbo. I was dumping my opinion that wasnt asked for basically

Didn't want to clutter up that guy's thread so I started a new one.

Now people say my typhoon isn't a typhoon because it is rwd and carb'd and no turbo. But when I gave the VIN to my insurance company they told me they registered a typhoon, go figure.

Now I have plenty of friends who have mustangs with sbc motors. Does that mean they no longer own a mustang? And if so what is it they now own?

I know there will never be a conclusion to a debate like this but it really irks me when someone else tells me what I own.

Any thoughts.....

Does it really matter what someone else said?? Do you like it? Thats really all that counts, not what someone else has to say.

Re: Never ending debate

Once a TY always a TY, once a SY always a SY. You can't turn a jimmy into a typhoon or a s15 into a syclone. It's just a clone.

I could see how people would argue it isn't, but it's just not a traditional TY. :2cents:

Oh you are right.. and that is what it comes down to at the end of the day.

Maybe I should have worded it differently.

What I am asking is at what point to you does a truck no longer become a syclone or typhoon. To me I do not see a point where that happens... maybe if it was a funny car type thing but that is really pushing it as none of those exist and I have never seen a funny truck! LOL

Nick is right on the mark. Who cares what someone else has to say? Everyone has an opinion and, no matter what the topic you'll never be able to please everyone. IMO if it was a Ty or Sy from the factory then it is a Sy or Ty period. If you want to make it a race truck with 2wd that's cool and something different. I don't hear anyone ripping other purpose built go fast trucks here.

Re: Never ending debate

Its still a typhoon, as far as a mustang with a small chevy, lets see chassis that works well, and a motor that makes lots of power cheap. id call it smart

Re: Never ending debate

Its my truck, most people recognize it as a typhoon even with the v8 under hood.

In the end I built what I wanted to build, unless someone else was paying for and doing the work for me I could care less.

Re: Never ending debate

I can see both sides to that arguement.. Im not really clear where I stand honestly Im not one to keep things stock by any means.. I didn't get involved with these trucks for the intent to make my money back on my investment later on in life but I do know when people ask me what a typhoon or syclone are I tell them a 4.3 v6 turbocharged awd pickup/suv with limited production :)

There is no right or wrong answer to this.. its your own opinion.

When you think syty's , awd turbocharged pickup comes to mind . If its not all of those , then its considered modified .

It could have a steam engine in it and still be a syty . Vin # is all that matters .

that's awesome..

I guess i'd like to add that I feel one of the features of owning a syty is that it's a different breed of animal from most anything out there which tends to lean me towards the must retain awd and a turbo group honestly. Just my opinion :)

Re: Never ending debate

I was this close to putting my 400 small block in my Ty. But decide to rebuilt origanal motor and put 400 in a GN. And if i did put the small block chevy in my Ty, it would still say TY on my title. Look at it this way and remmeber the saying (You can take a hoe out of the hood but you can't take the hood out of the hoe). Don't mean to insult anyone but the moral to the story is Born a Ty die a Ty.

So I dont like it, it was my opinion and I said it, why is it such a big deal to you? The wya I see it, its a why bother..."hey Im going to buy a Typhoon/Syclone and turn it into something totally different"....just doesnt make sense to me is all I was trying to say. I dont care for the V8 swaps as it is but I would like to think that it should atleast be turboed. Again, this was my opinion, I dont rule the world and cant force anyone to do anything so in the end everyone does what they want but to me its just kind of assanine to do things like this to SYTY's. Whynot just an S10? Everyone shoves thier opinions down my throat so I guess I have a few of my own.

Relax, might give yourself a heart attack.

I did not agree with your opinion, but I do not think it is wrong either. It just made me think about it and I was curious as to other's views.

As the title says this will always be an ongoing debate. There is no right or wrong answer.

Re: Never ending debate

I honestly think some people mod these trucks in unorthodox ways JUST to get a rise out of "the purists".

In fact I have been told by one person who left this site that they did so b/c of the rash of shit the "purists" gave him over considering a V8 swap. Childish reaction to a childish argument if you ask me, but what do I care? I am still here.

I honestly don't have any strong feelings either way.

I do feel that a V8 swap truck is worth less than even a rebuilt V6 truck.
Simply for the fact of the matter that it came with a V6 and now it is an 8.
Doesn't matter if its a seamless LS1 swap or a backyard 350 carb'd swap.

So in my eyes the molested trucks are driving up the value of the "purists".

And my truck is modded fairly well so I by no means consider my self a purist.
"Numbers matching" will probably never mean much to late model cars like it has in the past.

I say it's yours do what you want with it.
Now if an owner makes a SyTy a convertible puts hydraulics on it, a crushed velvet interior, gold flake paint job, 100 spoke triple golds... well you get the point.

There is taste and there is tasteless.

Re: Never ending debate

I don't think guys buy syty's with the intent of turning it into something else. The majority of the time is due to something like an engine failure. Guys start thinking about conversions and what not. I for example have thought about turbo V8 LS engine. Even though my truck still runs.
In my opinion and syty will always be a syty. That's the way it started. If my truck or any other is ever stolen and stripped. Running the #'s will prove what it was.
