Um, thats what the computer is for. These aint no old carb motors ;)

PLus the hassle of changing the belt when it goes bad would suck also.

Hi Harmon this is a external belt drive not internal so you
can swap the belt out without removing the timing cover it
also makes camshaft swap a snap !! ;)

Re: Jesel timing belt drive

Yes, i know what they are.

personally, i wouldn't waste my money on one for a stock block. There really is no advantage to having one accept it kinda looks cool. It does not save you time changing out the cam, you still have to take the same steps pulling off pulleys and also removing cover and cam retainer to get it out.

Another bad thing to consider is if the belt does decide to fail/ break or come off..your motor is toast. Stick to a double roller chain......mucho safer!

Alot of the guys running these jessel belts swap them after every couple runs just to be on the safe side also. And they aint cheap.

Re: Jesel timing belt drive

The Jesel belt drive will not work with the stock 4.3 style cam. You need a custom billet cam with a SBC nose. I have one on my Bowtie motor, but wouldn't recommend it for anything less than an all out build. Lot of hassle and expense for very little return. It does allow you to adjust cam timing, which can not be adjusted by the computer, but that's not something that you normally play with on anything but an all out Bowtie build.

What he said^^^

I run them on both my Bowtie motors and much prefer them over over a chian drive. They are more stable and less harmonics. The belts do last a long time and actually stretch less than chain drives. You can change cam timing easily and can change the cam without removing the cover etc, if need be. Not worth running stock block setups, but on major builds they are nice.

Thanks John great to know that these are very reliable belt drives
i already made the order from Jesel they said that it will fit the
stock SY block with no issues they also said that the belt drive make less
noise than the double roller chain drives i hope to have less knocking !!

Re: Jesel timing belt drive

I run jessel belt drives on my dragster engines and put 500+ passes on the belt. I've only seen one fail in all my years of racing. However I do agree that it's a lot of unnecessary money in most cases unless you're building an all out race engine.

Your block will need to be machined at the oil galleys to fit the Jesel front cover but the cam will not bolt up to the cam gear adapter. You will need a custom cam.

Do you mean the Jesel front cover will not seat flush
without this machining of the oil galleys ??? :(

Yes, quite often the oil galley and cam retainer bosses will need to be machined to clear the Jesel cover, then you will find that the cam adapter does not fit the 4.3 cam and you will need to have a custom cam made with a standard SBC nose.... that will run at least $500 if not more. My billet Comp Cams custom grind was $1000. I would just put a Cloyes hex-a-just timing set on it and call it a day.....
