Re: lil bit of a different turbo 4.3 here

kind of a cool story about the motor... my best friend whom ive known from high school (we're both 36) built this motor about 12 years ago for his daily driver s10 truck. it was lowered and he did a 6 speed swap before it was cool. home grown rear disks,17's the works. cool truck. ran low 13's on a 100 shot with this motor. but it really never had a good carb or exhaust. and lack of traction of course. then the motor went into a luv truck he bought. mini tubbed, lighter and really cool. it had the radiator in the bed enclosed in a custom box with NACA ducts feeding it from the sides of the bed. with a 700r4 and big gumball hoosiers it went 8.20's @86 ish i think with still carb issues and another small restrictive exhaust system. on a 150 shot the luv went 7.40 @96 literally falling on its face with a bad carb stumble. damn thing acted like the key was turned off then came alive!! this motor in the luv with the bad carb and 1.5inch headers made 263 wheel through a 3500 stalled 700r4. not too bad 1hp/per ci NET. i dont remember the juice numbers, anyway then the motor was sold to another guy and went 7.20's in a 2800 tube chassis roadster on methanol. glide,.4.88 gears 14x32s etc. bad ass car but the guy built the roadster as his 1st chassis car and it was too heavy. turned a lot of heads at the track and the v6 always drew a crowd with the exhaust note. then i come into the picture and find out my buddies ol v6 with the crazy heads and intake is for sale and i scoffed it up for 3k! intake to old pan. rev kit and everything. then i bought this sunbird from my best friend which was a project that never came about! so ive got my buddy sean's old motor in his old car and we couldnt be happier with the way its turning out.
the goal eventually is to build a stock block with a short fill, aftermarket main caps, pistons, hopefully odd fire, and turbo cam and 20psi on e85. the e85 is really cool and the intake right now is COLD to the touch!!! on a 100F day. i thought i had a fuel leak cause the intake was wet but it was condensation!!!! :) 1.8th mile goals are 100mph now with 10psi (11.1CR) and low 6's@114+ later.

Re: lil bit of a different turbo 4.3 here

and yes.... it needs a BIG hood! ive got 2 hoods that are going to used. the stock flat hood with a tight hole cut out with the polished goodness poking through! and the other is a flat glass hood that im going to make a custom 8 inch cowl scoop for. as you can see in the pics ive got 2 sets of wheels for street and strip. the salad shooters look cool and were free. the car also has 1.250 front and 1.00 inch global west bars front and rear and kyb gr2's all the way around. boxed rear control arms and im working on a custom adj.torque arm. rear tires are 235 60 15's, ET radials eventually.

i think it would be. here in texas 25 year old cars can be registered as antique and with that comes no inspection stickers, no registration sticker. and only 1 plate. supposed to go only to and from car shows, events, and "places of public interest" which means all my buddies at work want to see the car fridays so we can go to lunch in the car! wink

My sister had a 1978 with the 305 V-8 Red like your's, but all the trim was black. You have done a real nice job, I was looking for 1975 - 1978 Olds Starfire to put a Syclone engine in. A question for you. What changes did you make for the 5 lug wheels on the front and back?

Re: lil bit of a different turbo 4.3 here

theres a guy name bob gumm that makes ball joint adapters that allows a s10 spindle to bolt onto the monza ball joints. i got the entire front suspension from a manual s10 brakes and all for like 175.00. just a bolt on from there. i did have to make kind of a hybrid steering shaft to mate the monza tilt column to the manual s10 box. the brakes are still 10 inch on the front but that look beefier and of course have the 5 lug
