All i can say is WOW! this is by far the worst engine removal I have ever done! Haha these freakin things have hoses and wires and hidden nuts and bolts everywhere  But lil by lil im gettin this thing torn down. I sure am glad i took the radiator support out. I really dont see how this could be done otherwise. THE RUSTED UP POWERSTEERING HOSES WERE A B####! I was gonna go back with OEM stuff but crap since its apart I better do it right! I dont wanna take this thing apart again for awhile after that.

It is too late to ask this but can you pull this engine with everything still attached?

Re: Engine Removal WOW (this isnt a how to)

It will make it easier to pull the engine if the trans is out for a novice soul. Pulling it out all togather will require you to remove the core support. If you dont have any reason to pull the trans then leave in. I would reccomend adding solid mounts and cleaning up things while the engine is out. Im ocd so cleaning to me might involve a little orginizing skills. My favorite mod is to get rid of the damn coil/egr/map bracket. Always in the damn way. Goodluck, check out our Texas meet going down in june in the southern forum. LA peeps are always welcome to TX

Im having hell gettin these old rusted turbo bolts out.

First I was wondering if you can get to all the trans bolts from the underside? Im starting to want to pull the engine with the turbo still attached?

Second , I have the core support out. But i was just wondering if i can pull the engine with all the accesories and turbo and manifold still attached? I have all the front accesories off but the exhaust manis and turbo are still attached. Idk if imma be able to bust loose the bottom downpipe bolt and bottom rear turbo flange bolt unless the engine is lifted up a bit.

I'm not sure how much stuff you could leave on the engine. Probably most everything.

I didn't even take the hood off when I did mine. I had the turbo, upper intake and exhaust manifolds off.

Stick to the plan and pray you don't get a case of the "while I'm in there's." That bug has been going around here for years , its very contagious .

You are able to remove your trans bolts from underneath. A long extension or a bunch of shorter ones and a u-joint for the socket are a help.

I've pulled the engine out of my Ty more times than I'd like to admit. Each time I've left more and more together. These days I pull the accessory brackets, crossover pipe, upper intake and distributor. Everything I leave attached and pull it out in one piece. I don't take the hood off or any of the body parts. (although doing so gives you more room and more work).

In my few attempts. (even with the fenders and rad support removed) I've found it easier to seperate the trans from the block.

That's how much we removed when we took mine out.

But if your really good like Dave P. you can install and uninstall it with everything attached.

^ it is definitely possible to remove the engine almost complete. You can even leave the harness intact by removing the bulk head connectors. It does get tight and limits wiggle room, makes it harder to get to some necessary bolts but in the end it may be easier.

you can take it out with evetything on the engine, (except trans) and i would remove lower intake ans dist.
if you hit the dist hard againt something, you can break the oilpump shaft.

just do it, and it will not be as bad as you think it will be.

Re: Engine Removal WOW (this isnt a how to)

get this to heave easy acces to the belhousing bolts from on top of the engine:
images

take the oilfilter lines loose at the rad. and take the oilfilter housing and line out with the engine,
(you want to remove the rad anyway) so you don't have to install new o-rings and stuff
removing the crossover isn't needed

Dumb question. For mine, I wanted and (brandon too), wanted to remove the engine but the hoses to the compressor are still attached, and I know there are gases for the AC. What did you do? I worry about poisoning myself/others... any thoughts?

technically you are supposed to use a recovery machine to capture the r-13 or 134 that is in the system. personally i use a long screw driver and drain it thru the schradder valve slowly (there is oil in there also) its not gonna hurt anything as long as you dont have you face over it and are inhaling it as it comes out.

except with the screwdriver method there are enviromental issues, and (in Canada) I belive it is illegal.
