Broken Wheel Studs

I was driving home from the emissions station today after failing the emissions test for the second time in a row. I was on the highway doing about 60 and felt a vibration, which felt like a driveshaft out of balance or something like that. Anyhow, I pulled off the highway on to the outer road expecting the vibration to get better at a slower speed....but that wasn't the case. I decided to pull into a parking lot and have a look and as soon as i turned the steering wheel....the front end of the truck suddenly got 4 inches lower and i skidded to a stop. When I got out of the truck I saw my wheel sitting in the middle of the parking lot, and every damn wheel stud on the passenger front was sheared off. Anyhow, I guess my question is has anyone else had this happen to them before? Anyone have a part number for replacement ARP wheel studs longer than stockers? Since the one wheel and tire were pretty torn up I went ahead and bought a set of ZR-1 wheels with tires tonight to put on it. All in all I think I got lucky. It looks like everything is alright minus the wheel and right side wheel arch cladding. The cladding actually didn't rip or tear or anything, but the mounting tabs seperated from the actual cladding....so I either need new cladding there or have to figure out a way to reattach the mounting tabs back on. Any suggestions?

Settle down noob.

It wasn't meant to hurt your fragile psyche. You did notice I provided you the correct size & PN?
I could have linked you to bigmeat.com. :rotf:

We all have to use the crappy search function & since your no better than the rest of us, deal with the crappy search function.

If you think we're to harsh, go to your local Autozone and tell them GMC truck then #31.
They'll help you with a lot less concern than we will.

Yeah....just your typical noob, but that's what I'd expect from a drag race oriented group.

I did a search...and how am I to know which of the sizes I found during my search was correct? So I decided to share my story and ask again if anyone knew. I get the typical search ownz you, which I should have expected. There's always some know it alls on any site and I suppose it makes people feel better to do the typical "search ownz you" reply. Hey, I'm glad you have a quick truck and think you know everything...but perhaps you may learn something new from others as well?

Hey, what's the capital of Thailand?

No problem.

PM SMAUG.
He buys, repairs & re-sells broken cladding.
Maybe he can fix yours or sell you some that's repaired.

never happened to me, but it sounds like you or whoever the last person was, forgot to retorque your lug nuts...

Any suggestions?

be sure to retorque your lug nuts after around your first 100 or so miles...

Thanks, I'll shoot him a PM now.

Funny thing about torquing the lugs, I had just been doing some work on the Sy at my shop and had just retorqued them, so I know that wasn't the case. I'd venture to say they just must have been the origionals and they broke, simple as that. This truck does have some goofy aftermarket OZ wheels, and I'm wondering are these trucks lug centric or hub centric? Either way, that should be remedied with the ZR-1 wheels.
The only time I've seen lugs shear like this was one of my friend at a road course track session in his Saleen Mustang...but that car was putting a lot more side loading on the hubs than I know I was with my truck. My plans are to make this into a road race vehicle and run it in NASA Super Unlimited class, so I want to make sure this isn't a common problem....mainly that the stock hubs are stong enough to not flex when I have R compound tires on the truck.

While it may look ricey, that wing is necessary at close to 200 mph down the straights at Road America.

That's a pretty typical response to it though. Form follows function my friend.

You claim you want to run in a competitive class in a nationally recognized group and you dont even know how to find out what size the wheel stud is ?

OK, so whos' the noob here ??? Any auto parts store could have told you what size the wheel lugs are, INCLUDING AUTOZONE of all places and they are truly clueless !

You have been OFFICIALLY warned by a moderator. Further personal attacks will be dealt with accordingly.

For the most part, people here try to help, you apparently were offended by the help. If you start with the stupidity posting again. I will personally nominate you for disciplinary action.

I already do run in a competitive class in a nationally recognized group...quite competitively too I might add.

I was more or less asking for an ARP part number. If you think I'm truly the newby here, as far as Syclone's go you're right. However, maybe you should do a little research first. I build trans-am and stock car suspensions, world challenge chassis'...I come here to get some conversation going and I get a bunch of guys wanting to bash some guy on his first post. Go ahead and ban me, do what you will. I'm pretty sure FC FED is already over it, and so am I. I don't take the ignorant comments very well, and the one about the wing surely is. That car is making over 800 horsepower, on motor I might add, and tops out at 212 mph....without the wing it just couldn't do that safely.

After going back and reading this post I do realize I may have come across as a bit harsh...and that's not what I want. So to all I may have offended, I hope you'll accept my apology.

From 1350 to 1767, Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand until being destroyed in 1767 by the Burmese. After the destruction of Ayutthaya, the capital was moved to Thonburi, then in 1782, it was again moved across to the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River to it's current location, Bangkok.
