Re: Autocross at Nats 2013

I am thinking about renting a car (full insurance of course). Maybe we should have a single car shootout. All the smack talkers can turn a lap in the same car and compare times. I haven't auto x'ed in a while so I am unlikely to be on the podium, but it would level the field a bit.

This is something we've kicked around for a while now (years). The original intent was to use a Syclone to have the "showdown", but as that's not in the cards for the this year, a rental would be great.

Just to be clear, you are offering your rented car?

Perhaps we could all use Adam's Syclone :dunno:

....just a thought :)

Nah. If I build my own shit, I'll be the one to break it too. There are only a select few who I would ever hand my keys over to.

Your race ready bought trucks though on the other hand would make a good mule for newbies.

.....but it's the only way you could have possibly taken the "King of the Curves" plaque home. One is already in TN; I didn't need two ;).

Your right. Cause I showed up, just like I said I would.

In other words, I earned it due to I was there racing...not chasing down a good deal on a truck.

A win is a win is a win is a win is a win..........

I am offering my rented car as the mule... for driver training. That is what SCCA is all about right, driver training. Currently researching where to rent a decent car. I am hoping for an SS Camaro, but haven't found it available yet.

.....might not be a good first choice :rotf:

Couldn't agree more. That is probably the WORST car for auto-X.

Find something with agility over power and that doesn't weigh almost 4,000 pounds. The lighter the vehicle, the more maneuverable (generally) and Auto-X thrives on the smooth transfer of weight laterally more than raw power. Finesse' would be a fitting description, I suppose.

Contemplating driving the Z06 up Saturday for the Auto-X. Never played with it on a closed circuit, it is slow and heavy....advantage would be all yours

now why would we want to bring something that is easy to drive in an auto cross? I thought you guys were all hot shoes? While it is entertaining to the few that are in competition, having a big tire frying mule adds to the spectator enjoyment.

I agree. If we are going to have a mule, then it needs to be something tough to get out of control and easy to recover. This isn't the biggest course on Earth and the concrete barrier enclosing it all is very unforgiving (and probably more unforgiving than Avis). I'm going to minimize risks with course layout, but putting the key in the ignition is a risk you can't minimize. Having said that, we'll use whatever is offered up (and I'm not trying to persuade you on what to rent....that's your call, Jeff), but ideally it'd be something that would compete in G-Stock (Civic, Mazda 6, Mustang V6, Golf, etc...) or H-Stock (Fiesta, Focus, Cruze, Mazda 3, etc...).

The V6 mustang rental I had at shindig was very fun for AutoX, good enough power, but not too much to get you in trouble. It did pretty well too. You can see the difference bewteen an experienced and unexperienced driver as well with Jenelle's times compared to mine. I like this idea

Sweet. Nothing more like bringing a car to an event that is specifically catered to another. Hope Bowling Green is ready, I bet those folks have never seen a Z06 before!

I'm finished poking at you at this point. You talk a big game, then dont show up. You continue to talk and then cant even bring the vehicle (and you own multiple ones) in which you should bring. :dunno: Guess I'll just turn my attention to helping making Nats fun and successful.

You told me it was my 2001 Dodge Ram Diesel. :(

It was. But you're truck isn't slutty enough like "a potentially underage redhead girl smoking a cigarette in a wife beater with scaby knees and dirty flip flops". :rotf:
