Anyone remember the first Sy or Ty you did gaze upon?

Re: Anyone remember the first Sy or Ty you did gaze upon?

In the fall of 1996 I started seeing a Syclone at a shopping center a couple blocks from home. Back then I thought it was a customized Sonoma because I didn't know about Syclones. The vanity plate was WHPLASH. The owner had a store in the shopping center and on a shelf behind the counter was an assembled Syclone model. A few years later I put the pieces together and realized it was a Syclone after reading about SyTys on the internet.

April or May of 1997 I was with my brother and his friend on State Line Road in Kansas City. A white '93 with green/teal decals was heading the opposite direction and my brother's friend pointed at it and said "That's a GMC Typhoon, the fastest SUV in the world."

I had never heard of a Typhoon before 1997.

First Syclone seen was in 1992. An older man brought a new leftover Syclone to the street races. The guy had debadged the side emblems. He pulled up next to my firends bolt on 5.0 Mustang (it ran high 13's) to see if we wanted to race. I had suspected it was a Syclone. I had heard about Syclone but I didn't pay close attention to how quick they were. I assumed it was a pig like the other sport trucks, I was thinking this was going to be like the 454ss race we had raced earlier that year. While we were lining up to race my friend and I discussed that I thought it was a Syclone and we were going to 'taking it easy on the old guy'. To say the least my friend and I were both shocked when we raced and got killed.

my buddy had a wht/gry. it was kinda a pos. I hated the stock wheels, it wasn't fast or even quick. That was 98'. In 2002 i seen one (Tony Gwynn was driving) all black Ty, on the freeway, and fell in love with them. He kicked it down cause i was staring so hard at the truck, and it took off like a rocket. It was the 8 freeway

Saw my first one in 1992 in Etobicoke,Ontario,Canada. It went flying by me like a bat outta hell.....it was white/grey, had custom dual exhuast with 3 inch tailpipes angled out the sides and all i heard was the roar of the engine...i followed it around until this year.It has gone through many hands, pampered, abused, repainted black then white again....but it never left Ontario....Bought my first one soon after and imported it into Canada. It was very difficult back them to bring them in......now it's a piece of cake...LOL!

I remembered seeing them in the magazines, so I rode my 91 GT Pro Performer over to the Olds GMC Dealer in Middleburg Hts Oh. I used to go and sit in it. The sales guys had to wonder what a 13 or 14 year old kid was doing in their showroom once a week.
Not long after that, my Dad told me that a coworker bought it. She drove it daily (Ohio winters) for several years and then sold it. They still work together, I asked him to ask her if if she knew where it went when she sold it.
When he told her that I bought a Syclone, her eyes lit up. She is a huge gearhead.

Mine was about 10 years ago while working at a Meijer (similar to Walmart) in Louisville, Ky at the age of 15. I had heard about them but never saw one in person. Then I looked across the parking lot and saw a Syclone sitting out by itself. I spent nearly an hour staring at every square inch of that truck and not getting a single bit of work done while the owner was shopping. I told a friend of mine that that was there with me that I was going to buy one some day. A couple months ago when I picked up my Ty, he was the first person I called to tell him that I finally got one.

Saw my fist one in Brainerd Minnesota at the racetrack. GM had Syclones on display. Loked pretty cool. I have pics of them somewhere. I should dig them up and post them. Later that year I was driving in California and drove past a GM dealership that had Syclones and Typhoons out front. I stopped and took a pic with me standing in front of a bunch of them.

You gotta find that pic Norm.I've never seen a pic of more than 1 Sy or Ty brand new on a dealers lot. A row of them would be badass.

Re: Anyone remember the first Sy or Ty you did gaze upon?

I may be the youngest one to have seen one that has posted up so far. The first Syclone I seen was at Moulton Dragway, I guess maybe Aug. / Sept. of 92. That truck ran 7.80's or 7.90's in the rain with the windshield wipers on. That was the first one I saw, it was years later when I actually thought I might want one. The first Typhoon I saw was in 2000- 2001, it was a red/red here in town. The truck had been repainted, along with the cladding. A guy that had a performace shop had it for sale for $10,000.

Early 1992, Tom River NJ. We saw a brand new Syclone in the GM dealership display coming home from Church on Sunday. Sacrificed lunch on Monday to test drive and buy it. Got there and waited for almost an hour for another guy and the salesman to return with it and when he did, he bought it. Fell in love with everything about them.

i used to take my vega out to the street races with my, then wife. there was a white ty. it was driven by a young blond guy that looked like fabio. lol. seriously, he really looked like fabio. he was taking everyones money that night. not sure what was in the truck upgrade wise....but he went away with alot of money.

then, i was just cruzing with my wife in the car the same year...around 1993. i pulled up to a sy at a stop light. i tell my wife these sy's are fast...they have a turbo... and my wife says "how fast IS your truck?!" OMG i was soo embarrassed. light turns green and i pull away hard on him. he must have just flat punched it. cause when i got to the top of 1st gear he passed me like i was tied to a tree stump. lol. ive been sold on these v6 turbos ever since.

The 1st I ever gazed upon was a red a white one in a Cigarette catalog at a 76 station, I wanted the sleeping bag. My 1st in counter in person was a disappointment. It was in 2006 at a so called car lot in Oklahoma off HWY 40. It had a 2" bed/cab gap on the passenger side and a 1/2" bed/cab gap on the driver side. It drove sideways down the street. I passed on the perches. Two months later I seen it broke down in the fast lane on HWY 44.

The first one I saw (19 years ago) had a different hood and the "wing". I bought it and put it in my car audio showroom. I did put on the wheels and tires shown in the picture...
