Any pointers for 1/8th?

Headed to Sturgis, SD 3400ft this Friday with a bunch of guys from town. Any tips on tire pressure on 245/35 front, 295/30rear 20s?? I have tire pressure at 30 rear 32 front. Hoping to get into the 8s.

Re: Any pointers for 1/8th?

For stock wheels and tires, my best results were with 44psi fronts and 26psi rears. You'll have to experiment with your setup.

Uh just don't drag that's my advice! It just ends up costing you more money than the money pit already does!

If it's not running mid 8's bone stock then something is very wrong with it.

Jimmy, what are you calling mid 8's? If it runs an 8.5 in the 1/8th, it should do about a 13.3 in the 1/4. A 13.3 1/4 is a pretty healthy stock Sy time. I believe that Jay has some mods done to his truck to though, so I would imagine low 8's may be more likely.

A 100% completely stock low mile Ty went 13.4 in the 1/4 on it's second pass ever,a stock Sy should go 13.1.

Mid 8's is like 8.50.

Something is up.

Re: Any pointers for 1/8th?

My truck pushes through the brakes. Thats what happened with the Camaro at the start. I wasn't able to launch with much boost.
I have a full set of 17" tires, no rims. I tried to find some locally before last night but it didn't happen.

Yeah, the 60' times are right off.... A stock Sy should it 1.8x 60' times with a good boosted launch.

It was nice to be somewhere that people would come up to me & "knew" something about a Syclone.

I'm assuming you're blipping the throttle in neutral before you launch? You should be able to hold 10# on a stock truck.

The brakes have always sucked on this truck. Saving up for a CTS-V upgrade If I keep it.

With a nice boost launch, to get your 60ft times down, you will definitely get it into the 8's. Have you done any brake upgrades to you Sy? Nice clean runs though.

Re: Any pointers for 1/8th?

If you are doing the rev in neutral to build vacuum in the brakes and it still pushing through the brakes, it usually means a problem with front brakes. It could be the calipers sticky or something as simple as bleeding the brakes.

Re: Any pointers for 1/8th?

disk brakes will only make it worse.

This is correct.... I know there was talk about modifying the proportioning valve (like the impala ss guys) so that it will work better with rear disc but I haven't seen if it works on our trucks or not. On my Sy, even when stock, my fronts held up really well (after building up vacuum) Now with my LS1 brakes front and rear, I can still hold the truck in one spot and even build up to 12-15 psi but the rear tires start to spin as the rear calipers don't have enough pressure to hold it down.
