yep there were about 5 volts it would fluctuate between 4.9-5.2.........what is the voltage supposed to be and what the heck do i do now

You should have battery voltage present on ALL fuses. Measure your battery voltage so you have something to compare your readings to, then go back and measure your fuses again. You did have your Ign. turned on for this test, right? Make sure you have a good ground for the neg. meter lead.
Since your truck cranks Ok I assume you have a good battery. Sounds like you might have a bad Ign. switch.

But, ECM 1 is through the ign switch. ECM 2 is battery voltage dirrectly from fuse link. Two different B+ paths. (Can't be the ign switch).

You're right about the 5 volt reading. It just can't be...

OK. You measured between the 4 points and GROUND, correct?

When you hear the fuel pump. Is this upon turning on the key, or after cranking 10 seconds or so?

Measure between alternator case and the output stud on rear of alternator. Should be identical to battery voltage taken between the batt posts. Should be 12.0 Volt +/- .3 or so.

Is there still no check engine light?

What had you been working on / doing, just before it started running rough and quit???

i did measure ground and my dad didnt believe the reading so he went and did it himslef and got 5 volts

the fuel pump was priming when the key was inserted not after cranking for 10 seconds

will measure the alternator later

check engine and check gauges lights are on when cranking

i wasn't working on the engine when it stopped i was i think taking the driver seat out which is nothing that would effect the engine

and all of the things we have done so far trying to fix it are generic fixes realay ignition module nothing that would effect it all that much

the test probe was in the hole as you said to do and the ground was the big bolt on the door hinge

yes the check eng light is on when the key is in on position (and cranking)

no its a sy i was thinking if that would have any affect for a ground or not but theres nuthin on the sy seats

PLEASE. Read my stuff carefully. You're making it difficult for us to help you by not disclosing ALL of your observations. I try to phrase my questions / instructions in a way that will require a "yes" , "no", or one-word answer. It's the way I would go about it if I were there doing it myself. So, read carefully, do the 'tests' exactly the way we ask, respond with the result, and we'll continue.

and just for possible help when it died it sounded like the idle was really low so i tried giving gas but when any was applied it would choke it

and the seat rail is still in place if that would help anything im not sure

ok i tried the alternator and the battery was putting out 11.7 and the alternator was reading 11.64 volts

OK. I don't think this is electrical. you have a check engine light. And the pump 'primes'. I would like you to verify the voltage, though. Recheck the ecm fuse voltage using the cig lighter shell as the ground for the meter. I'd like to understand the 5 volt thing.

Moving on:

Pull the coil wire off the dist. Stick a screwdriver in it under the metal terminal. Hold the shaft of the screwdriver about 1/2" from something metal on the engine. Have someone crank it. Is there spark?

Turn on Key. Pump will run for 2 seconds. Let it stop. Crank BRIEFLY (less than 1 second, but more than just a 'bump'). When you stop, the pump should be running for 2 seconds, and stop. Does it?



using the cigarette lighter the ecm fuses got 11.5 volts i went ahead and checked them all the 5A INSTR LPS was getting 0 so i changed it with a 10 not having a 5A and it still read 0

no ones here to help with the spark

yes the fuel pump did reprime after cranking for the 1-2 seconds

we put gas in it at first and nuthin but it had gas when the problem started and pulled the plugs and the one i pulled was getting good spark ill try the sensor and get back with you
