Glad to see you got it. The solids should go in easier. Did you get the exhaust yet?
You should have your truck on the road way before mine, let me know the difference from the solids to the stock mounts.

Exhaust is not here yet. Once the solid mounts are in it'll be 3" all the way. HD front drive line and maybe ?? Turbo has to come off anyway to remove the plug and port the WG so thinking of a small upgrade.

Re: Winter mods

The way I did it,

With no hoist I put the Sy up on jack stands and removed front bumper, CAC, front tires, wheel wells, and the front driveline. ABS already deleted so not as many lines in the way. After some study I decided that the front dif could be lowered, not removed, by removing the drivers side front support bolt and the pass side support bracket. (5 bolts total.) At that point the dif just kinda hinges down on the remaining drivers side rear bolt. I used a second floor jack to control it. I did not remove the 1/2 shafts. Once this is done you have tons of room and the job becomes easy(er).:) Now the rubber mounts that are on the engine presented a problem. Because they were badly distorted I couldn’t reach the bottom bolt on the drivers side and the top bolts on the pas side. The rubber was in the way. By temporally reinstalling the mounts on the pas side I could apply vertical tension to the mount enough to get the rubber out of the way. Drivers side was more difficult but there are two “ears” on the mount that stick down and by putting a spacer between one of them and the top of the front dif I could lower the motor and apply upward tension enough to get to the lower bolt.

Hope this helps.

Re: Winter mods

Well I'm pulling the front dif (see my post in that section) so I can change the two front freeze plugs. Not leaking now but that's only because I put stop leak in it last year. Anyway, looked impossible without removing the front dif. To do that steering linkage is out. Soon the truck will be in so many pieces I won't know how to put it together.

Join the club. :) Got to love syclones. Look at it this way... When you get that 12 next year you can look back and say it was worth it.

Re: Winter mods

Dif is out and I tackled the first freeze plug. I had bought a "puller," that was a waste. At least this one which was supposed to work by threading itself into the hole and "jacking" the plug out. All it did was strip because the freeze plug is thin metal. It was cheap so no great loss. Stuck a long punch in and pried, nothing. Didn't budge! I need an easier way. Thinking I might dremel into the side of the plug just a bit (not into the block obviously) to release the tension.

Hints?

TIA

Re: Winter mods

Finally got to work on the Sy today. Freeze plug is changed. Motor mounts arrived today. I'm sorely tempted to change the pan gasket since I'm so far along. Other than that I think I've turned the corner. From now on it's put it back together.

Re: Winter mods

Some progress. Changed one last freeze plug. Changing the pan gasket. Pan is off and no leakage evident from rear seal or front trans seal. THAT is good news! Replacing the hose portion of the turbo water lines also top fitting, just under the t-stat, is bad. Got a used one coming. When the pan is installed I will have turned the corner, it's going back together.:woot:

First race date is Mar 7th, hope to make it.

good to see you are starting to put it back together. Me too, but I have a bit more to put back.
How many miles does your Sy have again?

Re: Winter mods

Nope, sorry. My neighbor has a brake shop and I just told him to get them for me. What everyone does, and what I did, was to also install two secondary (long) shoes on each side also.

I know San Jose to Infineon is a bit of a trip but hope to see ya there a little more often this year. Your build will run circles around mine but I'd like to make some runs together anyway. I think it would be great to see two Sy's on the track together.

Do you still have your abs unit gary? I couldnt build boost over like 4-5psi without going through my brakes until I did the abs delete then I could easily go about 10+psi(although I never launched it that hard....I spooled it up to 10 and eased it back down)

abs is there but wireing is disconected. Still cant find a abs delete kit anywhere. I was able to spool to 10lbs before but I figured while the truck is apart I might as well do everything I can right now.

Re: Winter mods

Progress. Mounts are in, and, wonder of wonders, front dif is back in. Didn't look good in the beginning but raising the motor a bit helped a bunch. Those of you who've done it know how good it feels to have that blankety blank thing back where it belongs. My hat's off to ya... My best friend, who came to help, says next time let him know. He'll be on vacation.

It's down-hill now, should be on the road soon.

Re: Winter mods

great Don. I just did my mounts and even with the engine out they were not easy. I will be up there a few times this year. Would love to see a few syty's out there this year.

Re: Winter mods

Hey Don, that's awesome news you got the solid mounts installed. Those really help get the power to the ground. I think that mod alone should put you into the 12s this year. Traction bars are also a good investment. Looking forward to running with you in March ;)

Looking forward to it (12's). I'd like to think I'm making the HP just not getting to the ground. If we could get 2 or 3 trucks at Infineon at once it would be cool. 'course if you guys show up I'll promptly go from fastest, IE only, Sy to slowest but what the heck it'll be fun.

Re: Winter mods

Ported TB arrived today. Main reason for purchase was mine leaked. Hopefully she'll pass smog now. (Failed idle before) I've got the original 190 stat back in for the test. Gilbert is in. THANKS Gip.

Re: Winter mods

Well finally, it's back on the road, drove it today. Nice to be back in the Sy. Didn't really notice any roughness with the solid mounts. All seems OK. I have the orig 190 t-stat in it right now in hopes that will help it pass smog. (Failed idle on previous test. We'll see.) First racing date is 3 1/2 weeks away.

:D Nice to see another Sy on the road again. Did you do the exhaust too?? or are you like me and are waiting for parts. The driver side frame pad has some adjustment. How did you set it?? Thanks
