why does my ty run funny when datamaster is connected????

ok i just got done taking the ty out for a spin, around the block or so. anyway before i went i hooked datmaster up to it. i have the moates extreme aldl cable and i know the cable and everything is good. its basically brand new.

first of all i just got done redoing all the vac lines on the truck which was needed badly. whoever owned the truck befoe me must like to half ass everything. i also did a tune up new plugs (ngk ur5's, gaped to .032), wires, cap and rotor new TB gasket (cause i thought i had a bad vac leak from there. i doubled checked all the vac lines a check valves to make sure everything was correct, also everything got zip-tied.

so after 20 minutes of messing around with datamaster and the COM ports i finally get the thing to connect  ...im pretty sure im doing it the proper way. tuning the key to "ON" position and letting datmaster connect to a COM port, let it start to gather data, then start the truck.

first thing i notice is, my idle is higher then normal. its at 1025rpm, which is wired cause its normally around 900-850ish. so i decide to drive it down the road to test it. when i put it into drive, the rpm's go up, then they go down, when its in gear.

when im going down the road it drives fine. everything seems normal untill i have to slow down. when i hit the breaks, it allmost seems like i still have my foot on the gas pedal or the converter is still locked??? the rpm's stay up untill i completely stop , then they go down to normal :banghead:

another thing i noticed was if i was cruising around at 35mph or so, once again is seems like my converter i locked, cause my turbo just screams crazy loud (i kinda like it... ).

************************but i did pull a code about halfway through my datamaster record. it brought up MALF 35: IAC error.********************

anyway im heading back to the house and the ty starts the sputter, so im praying to god i get it back home. i have to feather the gas so it dont die on me. but i do get it back home. i park it and let it idle for a sec then it dies.

now if i take datamaster off my truck and then drive it. NONE of this happens :squint: it drives fine and no weird "coverter "thing...none of it.

so any thoughts or ideas i should look into. this thing is driving me nuts..lol :rotf:

oh yeah, i do have a newer fuel filter on it a 255 pump, afpr. i have a fuel pressure gauge but i dont have it hooked up yet. i have an isolater now cause i have the gauge inside the truck. i just have to hook it up

Check the switch on the side of the Xtreme ALDL box is switched to "OPEN" and not in "10k ohm". If it is in 10k Ohm it will step up your IDLE. Should be "OPEN".

If you find this fixes it...Clear the 35 code by taking out the ECM A fuse and the ECM 1 fuse both are in the lower section next to each other in the fuse panel next to a silver breaker fuse. Wait 5 minutes and put the two fuses back in to clear the code 35 in the computer. Should be good after that. You can confirm the code is gone by selecting in the Datamaster Program "VIEW" and then "DTS Histogram" look for all green blocks if any are red that is a code. ( Should be all green after pulling the fuses for 5 minutes.)

Your cable is grounding the diagnostic terminal. I had the same problem. What you need to do is cut off the "B" terminal on your cable.

oh yeah before i forget. i di dhave the moates aldl cable on 10k ohm and i switched it to "open". it ran a ton better and i think that was my issue. so make sure the cable is switched to open.
