I think someone needs to ban rotten fish as well as Vinny's red ricer shirt. Come to think of it, someone needs to help Vinny with his poor judgement or revoke his decision making rights for the weekend.

On a constructive note, the earlier track time and the how to clinics would be cool.

Re: What did you like/didn't like about this years Nats?

Nadine and I came up with some ideas as we drove home. We'll sort them out and post them up tonight after work.

There's been some good ones so far and pretty much on par for what we were thinking. But we'll get 'em written up all the same. :)

Ha ! I Knew it would rub SOMEONE the wrong way ! ;) All in good fun now. I'm a TOTAL "Car Guy" and love many brands. Like I said in an earlier thread......I hadn't EARNED a SY/TY shirt yet.....so I wore what was clean and ironed. Besides....would you have even looked or noticed me without it ??lol.
I also like the race time changes too.Good Idea.
So hopefully .....everyone will dig my shirt idea and I'll be wearing one of those next time.Probably with a picture of that darn can of STURSTROMMING pukeness. :squint:
...............Vinny

ok, can we not make this another general conversation thread and keep it on the topic at hand?

I hate to be the party pooper, but ONE thread at least needs to stay on track here.

thanks ;)

Oh,hahaha !! I know ,I know.....all in good fun. Renz razzed me the whole weekend endlessly too ! East coaster humour at its finest. Or Foinest !lol.
I promise I'll do better next year Dad !!haha. I did start to feel a little odd as I looked around more and noticed more and more people donning SY/TY wear ! DOH......
But I still felt I needed to EARN the right .Perhaps I have ?? ;)
...............Vinny
edit: ooops, sorry Morgan....didn't mean to wander there. I did at least come up with the shirt idea for next year in the meanwhile. Geez......such an iron hand ! :( ;)

Re: What did you like/didn't like about this years Nats?

I really like what dig had to say. Alot of people come to the nats for meet and greet and dont ever find out who they are talking too. The t-shirt idea with a short who are you session would be good. I would also like to have a few tuning sessions with the knowledge of those like dig and jeff to help others along, and show them how it is done.
More group collective activities in the lot. The grill and soda in the parking lot was great. I liked the creativity of the awards.

If this event could happen a couple weeks earlier I would definately put in an effort to making it. I just cant see taking off a week of school at the beginning of the semester. From what I gather, truck owners ages are getting younger and I'm sure there a lot of guys in college that could benefit from having it sooner.

The only complaint I have is the racing. I know people like to stay out late, but can we rent the track any earlier? Dinner at 10pm is not cool. I think it pulls peopleaway from the track and racing as they leave early to eat and I can't blame them.

Maybe start the rentalat say 12 with a hour for tech and pictures. Start open test and tune at 1pm let it go till 3. take 1/2 hour break for track personal, then gointo racing at 3:30. Then back to open test tune after racing to say 7 pm. This way we can get dinner around 8 pm or so. This leaves more time for socializing afterwards on saturday night.

Well, I think the idea with the late time was to wait until a cooler hour of the day. We got lucky with the temp this time, but in the past it's been 103 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

I wouldn't have minded getting out there at 9 AM or so... except that I had only gone to bed 3 hours before that.

I like the shirt idea, and what about a hold'em game for pre-registered peeps? Just an idea, could be for shit talking rights or for a prize.

Yea I can see the heat thing, but if the date stays in september , instead of june, I think the track time could be moved up.

I notice that it didn't cool down all that much in KC. We usually have 20+ swing of temperature from mid day to evenening in my track this time of year. By 8pm its almost always in the 60's.

Re: What did you like/didn't like about this years Nats?

I can't say enough about the people who help put on the Nationals, and the ones who attend each year.
In looking ahead, Im not qualified to state more than the obvious:

1. 1/3 of the attendees would come no matter where the event was held, attracted by the
friends, conversations, banter, and hanging out among vehicles-of-your-own-kind....
2. 1/3 of the attendees show up for the racing venue (whether its Marlboro`s vs Marlboro`s;
Bully vs Robert; Hoover vs Peter/Guy L./McCoy/Dean-Howie Automotive; or SyTys vs SRT-10s
and lightnings). They like the challenge, racing competition, and interest into their designs/work.
3. and 1/3 attend, being either new owners, curious pre-buyers, advice/parts seekers, owners located nearby, or vendors.

What I dont know, is "if one of the above" was taken away, how the event would be viewed
(ie success or failure)?
- Are the Hoovers, as representatives year-to-year "replaceable"?
- Will track rules (no laptops, and emphasis on safety equipment) dampen the attendence?
- Will the shrinkage of vendor support like ATR, Kenne Bell, and parts become a problem
to those trying to drive or attend with a vehicle?
- Will friendship be enough of a draw to sustain an audience gathering of 75 people/35 trucks
without a "major pro-challenge truck match"?

Dunno...and could not guess to what a poll would say. Somehow, I would like to
see a top 10-shootout; more coverage via magazines; guest lectures via knowledgeable people;
and perhaps a caravan/cruise of all SyTy`s somewhere (like a local car show, or power tour stop,
or autocross/nascar track for 1-lap of "blasting").

But then, I may be all wrong <grin>...

This was my first year, and the deciding factor for me to go this year was Robert vs Bully. If my truck would have been together, I would have gone, but without a truck, I really had no interest. I will be going again next year, and the 4 years after that, even though I won't have a truck driveable yet.

LowSonoma99, I didn't even realize you were at the Nats. This is my first Nats, so I don't have anything to reference it.

The T-Shirt Idea is kind of neat, but I wouldn't wear one all weekend though. (I wore a name tag for a day.) The pretty much the only time, I wear my SyTy T-shirts is at SyTy meets.

The earlier racing would be fine if it was in Spetember, but leave if goes back to the hotter summer.

I like the autocross idea, I realize that is more of insurance issue. I didn't miss the dyno, it would have been a bunch of people watching.

I thought overall everything ran pretty smoothly. I just wish I had my truck together at the Nats. The Nats staff did a great job, most of the weekend I only saw them working.
