My upper IC has always felt hot to the touch after driving the truck. I always thought it was normal and from the heat of the turbo. I could barely see movement when the cap was off and thought that was as fast as it was supposed to be.
I was at a car show on sunday and when driving home, my friend and I were racing on a long stretch. He was driving a Mercedes SLK 280 V6 TURBO. We were doing burst up to 125-130 off and on for about 11 miles. By the way, those cars are slow. I had to let off a couple of times to keep from rear ending him.
When I got to my house, I parked in the drive way and opened the hood to let her cool down before putting her in the garage. My intercooler was boiling. I could hear the water inside bubbling.
Next day I turned the key on and watched while looking in with a light. Still barely any movement. I kept the pump running for about a hour with the cap off and kept squeezing the two lines by the steering box.
Every once in a while I would hear the pump chewing some air. By the way, I do have a johnson pump and it is hot wired. I finally got all the air out and when looking at the flow I can see it moving a llittle faster than it was. Last night I went to a car cruise and when I arrived, I felt the ic and it felt barely warm. The same when I got home. I guess I have been driving my truck for years with trapped air and never knew it.
