Upper ic boiling !

My upper IC has always felt hot to the touch after driving the truck. I always thought it was normal and from the heat of the turbo. I could barely see movement when the cap was off and thought that was as fast as it was supposed to be.

I was at a car show on sunday and when driving home, my friend and I were racing on a long stretch. He was driving a Mercedes SLK 280 V6 TURBO. We were doing burst up to 125-130 off and on for about 11 miles. By the way, those cars are slow. I had to let off a couple of times to keep from rear ending him.

When I got to my house, I parked in the drive way and opened the hood to let her cool down before putting her in the garage. My intercooler was boiling. I could hear the water inside bubbling.

Next day I turned the key on and watched while looking in with a light. Still barely any movement. I kept the pump running for about a hour with the cap off and kept squeezing the two lines by the steering box.

Every once in a while I would hear the pump chewing some air. By the way, I do have a johnson pump and it is hot wired. I finally got all the air out and when looking at the flow I can see it moving a llittle faster than it was. Last night I went to a car cruise and when I arrived, I felt the ic and it felt barely warm. The same when I got home. I guess I have been driving my truck for years with trapped air and never knew it.

Good thing you finally realized it. That's a common problem when lines are changed or fluid is flushed. It's a PIA to get all the air out sometimes.

It's not a pita if you fill it from the petcock like you do oil in a drive on a boat.

Put a hose on petcock open it up,take cap off and use hand pump to fill from bottom up.

For sustained boost the stock system is undersized. Design specifications were to be able to run 15 seconds under WOT before becoming heat soaked and losing effectiveness. If your upper IC got that hot you may want to monitor your IAT as well to be safe.
