UPDATE - Volvo Elec. Fan Mounting Kit

Re: UPDATE - Volvo Elec. Fan Mounting Kit

Sorry guys... I've been meaning to post an update.
I've been a little on the sick side and honestly haven't been worth a $hit all week. I did manage to do some bead rolling and it's really not too hard. However... when I gave it a shot on the aluminum test plate I found that it was a little too thick. It rolled a bead and would serve the purpose, but the softer aluminum made a crease along the bead edge and it was only formed about 1/2 of what it was suposed to be. I think I'm gonna "X" the idea and get everyones kits out to them. The way it mounts to the fan I don't see and real need to have the added strength. The fan shroud is what actually carries the load and it's pretty stout.

For the 4-5 guys here that have already paid and are waiting for shipment... I'm packing up hardware kits today and hope to box them all up so i can drop them off at the post office in the morning. Mike, I'll be sure to get yours shipped first thing. Everyone should have it by the weekend.

I will be putting mine in over the weekend. I ordered the dc control setup, hopefully it will be here in time. I'll take pics and let you know how it goes. I can't wait to follow those nifty little instructions! they look like they took a lot of time.
Did you get your fan installed? How did it go? I haven't heard from you so i am assuming that it was fairly easy? I take criticism well so if you had any troubles I'd like to hear them so others can avoid mishaps. Oh yea... PICS TOO

Your kit will be shipped, only that last part was meant to be inthe other forum. Sorry for the confusion. I had both windows open and trying to keep up I must have forgot to send the message here before I entered the other one. When I clicked to type the new message, it was still here in this forum and added it where I left off. The colors are similar and when I hit send it all went here and nothing there.

Anywhooo.... I finished the hardware kits and paired them up with top and bottom plates today. the kits with a fan will definately go out in the morning if I can get up. Unfortunately i will have to make some sort of box for the kits by themselves but I should be able to get them out too. Hopefully you all won't mind having a Pampers logo on your box.

I don't think I have any other pieces of cardboard big enough. Maybe this will be the perfect excuse to buy that BIG screen TV that the wife doesn't feel we need? Can't hurt to ask right?

Yes, I got the fan installed yesturday. the fan kit is really nice. I was very pleased with the fit and finish, and everything bolted up perfectly, looks very nice. The rubber grommets are hard to get in but thats about it. The directions you included did not mention what a PITA the radiator is to get out lol. I guess everyone should just assume that. Good times where had when my CCHE swallowed my ratchet wrench trying to get the lower shroud bolts out  . All and all it was a clean install. I installed the DC Control fan controller at the same time so the install took a little longer. It was well worth the time. I have pics of everything, just need to get them off the camera; I will have a more detailed write up when I get some time. Thanks Jon, nice work.

Glad to hear that it went smoothly. I'll be happy to host the pics for you if you need web space. If you haven't had your radiator out in awhile then YES you may run into a couple delays with various oil lines and such.

Oh yea... the rubber gromets need to be tight. For anyone that may try to drill a larger hole to make installation easier... DON'T because it needs to be snug to keep it mounted solid. If anyone is scared to leave it this way and just don't want to take any chances, the pins drill out fairly easy and then you can actually bolt it into place but you'll have to get under the truck each time you want to remove the fan.

Fan kits are packaged up and read to be dropped off a the post office. If I get them there for the early pick-up then you all should have it Friday.

After getting the grommets in the fan, I think they work just fine. The fan fits very snug and does not move. I didn't see the need to drill the pins out and I like not having to get under the truck to get it out.

Re: UPDATE - Volvo Elec. Fan Mounting Kit

~!*!~!*!~ATTENTION~!*!~!*!~ Oversight in the last shipment....

I truely apologize for this oversight associated with the last batch of fan kits that went out. After I got home from the poat office from droping them off, I cleaned up what mess I had and upon inspecting a remaining hardware packet I noticed that I didn't drill the hole in the lower mounting pins.

If ANY of you that received one of these kits would like replacement pins with the hole I'll need your shipping address and special request sent to ebay@mirradographics.com It's very easy to do this yourself but I'll be more than happy to ship out 2 new pins. Just be sure that the hole is large enough for the lower mounting bolt, actually a little larger is helpful in adjusting the pins to the proper alignment.

OOPS:oops:
I'll try to get a pic posted of the pin with hole and measurements where to put it. You need to be sure there is room for the large retaining washer that is on the lower mounting bolt.. In otherwords don't make it too close to the fold.

Re: UPDATE - Volvo Elec. Fan Mounting Kit

OK, here's the pin with proper hole placement.
The center of the hole should be 1/4" from the upper edge and centered. Drilling a tiny pilot hole first may help prevent the bit from walking.

If you drill a 1/4" hole then you will have a nice snug fit.
Drilling a 5'16" hole will allow for more adjustments.
Remember, you can always make it bigger if needed.

Again, I apologize for the oversight and will promptly ship out a pair of drilled pins upon your request if you prefer not to drill your own.

Re: UPDATE - Volvo Elec. Fan Mounting Kit

Also wanted to let you know Jon, that the Perma Cool adjustable controller i have with a threaded in sender i wont be using, its this kit here:

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=13465&parentCategoryId=11471&langId=-1

It worked great on my 01 Blazer X with a dual LS1 fan setup. But now that i have the autoprom hooked up, im going to use the electric fan/IC pump controls to run the fan on my truck, because the IC pump has already been hotwired to run when you start the truck. Should be a sweet setup and work like a charm.

Also if anyody is intersted im willing to sell the perma cool controller. PM me if your interested.

I got the 35 amp, the 60 is really for 2 fans. You don't need anything else, the instructions are really good. I bought the LED display also because I thought it would look cool and be helpful at the same time. it was an extra 10 bucks, I'll have pics up soon.
