Update - Finally Got One

In an earlier thread I introduced myself and told you guys about my luck with the Typhoon and transmission rebuild.

Well I'm back :( Since the work was was I've driven maybe 20 miles, drove it to work the next day and to buddies place the day after. Nothing crazy, no hot roding, so at this point I've ran less than a tank of gas since purchase maybe 160 miles.

I got my aldl cable and loaded up tuner pro on my laptop wanted to see how it looks/works and after starting it up I can hear what sounds like a knock from the engine. Open the hood and wow I'm no pro but sounds like piston slap definitely something internal. At idle its quite starts knocking around 1800 then gets quite again around 2500.

Very unlikely but maybe a convertor bolt is loose or something from the transmission job is starting to make noise. The sound really seems too slow for that more like 1/2 crankshaft speed, even slower that that really, but I'll be bringing it back to the shop on Monday.

I have the work order from the shop in Monroe that did the motor replacement and its been 8 months and a total of 214 miles since the work was finished. Also in the paper work I received when I picked it up it looks like they may have already warrantied one of these long blocks...I got a very poor response from Millennium Motors when I called about the transmission so I'm guessing I'm going to get the exact same thing when I ask about the engine.

Keeping my fingers crossed but I have a feeling I'll be building a motor soon.

Re: Update - Finally Got One

Sure I'll put one up this weekend.

I thought I heard something the other day that went away when it was warm, I didn't let it warm up yesterday though to find out.

they probally put a standard 4.3 reman engine in it, they last about that long in these.

Re: Update - Finally Got One

I have that exact same feeling, when I spoke with the shop they said it was specially ordered for a Typhoon.

I don't know exactly what went down but with the paperwork I have it looks like the shop put two long blocks in, the second a warranty for the first. You would think they would take some measurement to verify compression ration after the first engine came apart. Like they say "common sense isn't very common"

:( I'm going to be in this thing $20k before I've put 250 miles on it.

Yep, you're not alone. I'm closing in on 35 and 600 miles driven. I'm about to change that, though. You'll get it fixed up. Where are you located?

Re: Update - Finally Got One

I haven't called yet. I want the shop to be able to answer any questions they have in the unlikely event the dealer is willing to help.

I'm not going to put another engine in from the same reman shop that built this one so unless they are going to contribute financially It's all on me.

One would thing that by advertising with a "new engine" they should be held some what responsible but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Re: Update - Finally Got One

Yeah I filed a complaint when the Transmission went tits up. The guys at bloods thought it sounded like something from the valve train after a glance. Maybe I'll get lucky, I'll fill you in when I have more info.

From the video, it sounds like upper end rather than lower. May be more simple than you think. I'll be waiting to hear how it turns out.

Re: Update - Finally Got One

Well got it in the shop last night and so far no luck.

Blood was saying it happens when what he calls piston float, meaning no load. Basically you can put it in gear and its quiet at the same rpm.

They pulled the plugs and borescoped the cylinders, nothing. I think they are gonna pull the valve covers today and see if they can find anything. I agree it sounds like top end but the way noises travel its hard to tell.

The paperwork I got from the dealer has very little info on where the motor came from but theres a reference to AER Manufacturing and USAutoparts.com

They found a plate that must've been the reman part number/tag and are going to try and find out exactly what we're working with.

Just out of my own curiosity would you guys recommend finding one of these shops online that builds a SyTy motor or just having it built locally. I'm sure there's plenty of known good combinations...
