I downloaded the demo. At least when you are driving down the road you get a dash. Datamaster should add the dash. The spreadsheet looked pretty good too. Let's see what the smarter people think.
What special price? I 'm not one of the chosen ones either.

me no get email either, tho i am cking the link now.
the dash display gives me a boner.
i love crap like this - good graphics win every time.
i believe i am gonna buy it.
anyone know if it can/can be made to run on a pda type deal?
i gotta buy a laptop to run this anyway - much rather have something real small then laptop size.
anyone?
thx

Truckless. For now.
i'm thinking a pda version is in the works. :) there's still some features to come on the laptop version before they start worrying about another OS though.

welp, i believe u were involved in teh prototyping - think there will be an upgrade deal rather then buy all from scratch again?
any idea at all on eta?
thanks

'nother thought/question -
got a decent laptop with a bad screen.
can a pc be connected to teh typical lcd screens available for cars these days?
such as the ones u see dropped down from ceiling console for kids to play vid games/watch tv?
perhaps an adapter to get one from pc to lcd screen?
barry r u out there?
i think u may have done this?
thanks!

Mike,
I don't know about the tv monitors, But I do mobile computers. We do alot of PDRC installs. as a matter of fact we did all the ones around you if you are in Montgomery County Maryland. If you are close to 7 locks road, Gaithersburg, next time i'm down there i can show you a remote screen. But they are pricey!

Anything that will have a good computer display (VGA) is gonna be spendy - try $600+ for a 7" screen, that has a goofy resolution.

The laptop displays need power supply & controller, which is usually built into the motherboard. There *are* ways to make such screens work, but you have to do some serious research before you even think about doing this.

We had a thread about this in off topic, and I was all hyped about it. I'd do it in a second if I was convinced I could find a decent display for a reasonable cost. I just will NOT use a composite input display.

i am in rockville, very near gburg,. in mo county.
drop in one day if you'd like.
smeagol - why not composite input?
is resolution that shitty?
biggtime - i'd like to see whatcha got.
smeag - i can get the usual automotive screens cheap - happy to contribute to the effort if needed.

VGA is going to look MUCH better than composite or even s-video for our purposes. It works fine for TV/DVD and whatnot, which is why those are so popular. PC's in cars ain't all the rage....

ok, lemme revise my ? a bit, please.
knowing one could always use the screen built in to the laptop if desired, COULD i use a screen as mentioned above, and just how bad do ya think it would be?
relative to say vga - 640x480 - which i couldnt play a game in for example without barfing?
i dotn knwo how important hi res is gonna be in thsi partic app, in that there really isnt any fine detail?

Depends on size & quality, and what you are looking at. Gauge layout like in Turbolink might be *ok* for seeing colors & needles moving... reading data would probably be useless.

Put it this way - we have a 50something inch TV that we have hooked up to a PC.... it's in 800x600 resolution... and from 5 feet away, you can *barely* read text. It's great for watching vids, playing DVD's etc.

big - dont wanna sound dopey, but huh? - dont follow your comment.
if it's a govt thing, i have friends/family on the job - could go thru 1 o them.

There really is no bonus to you using a remote screen. For the price you could buy a decent laptop. Remote screens in my buisness is popular because the officer can keep his computer and travel from car to car and still have his info. Plus the screens are mounted in the dash and the computer in the trunk so you don't lose any room up front.

i'm thinking pull the poem gauge cluster and mold in a large lcd, rectangular shape.
i can do the copsmetics no sweat and make it look right - just concerned day to day readability.
seems as if it's be opk for the needles as u mentioned - i'd not be reading text while driving, and could always flip up laptop screen (well, no, since mine's broke, but i would get another if really needed or repair it)
the layout u came up with basically is what i would love to have in my face full time.
