Tuning Help

I installed an AEM wideband and when I start the truck stoich is 14.6 and within seconds it drops to 10.0 at idle. Normal driving is 13.2 with alot of fluctuating back to 10.0 wich is killing my gas mileage if this is true. I'm waiting on an authorization code for VISTA from Scott at Detroit Turbo but until then I only have OBDII scanners and software which does me no good. The truck has 42# injectors and an ultimate chip. I've tried every setting and no luck but I need data master to see whats really going on with the fuel trims. The truck runs great with a new exhaust system, no cat, gt35r compressor and TD06H turbine at 17 lbs of boost. I have all the tuning software needed and more form Scott and was wondering what some of the ODBI experts have to say. Hopefully I can log as soon as I get my code.

Why wait? Download the Trial of DM... it'll give you like 20 runs.
Either that, or download tunerpro.

I can tell you that I'm not aware of any ultimate that was ever made for 42# injectors.
If it's a stock injector burn, 42# injectors are gonna be pig rich.

i was thinking the same thing. i didn't think they made a 42lb injector/gt35 turbo tune on the ultimate chip. but i could def be wrong. anyone have any other :2cents:

Re: Tuning Help

I downloaded the trial and it won't work with Vista, it needs a new auth code. I called tts and they said go back to Scott. I'll try tuner pro next if I don't hear from Scott.

Re: Tuning Help

I see thefre's a 50# tune so you'd think their would be something. If not I have the Kenne bell chip which I'm leary of but I don't give up easy.

The KB 40# chip wasn't for 42s, and was pretty awful even with the right injectors.

The 40s were such a tuning pain that nobody really messed with them much after '98 or so. The 50s came around and everybody started in on those.

The 009s (42s) were different injectors entirely. What was done for 40# injectors won't work well with these.

If a 40# Ultimate did exist, it was a one-off custom job that was done, and it would be labeled that way on the PROM in the Ultimate. If it was done custom on someone else's truck, it's not likely gonna work in yours.

Rob (WYOSYCLONE)'s 40# code59 bin will be the closest thing you can find, and will need tuning from that.

Re: Tuning Help

I have a couple of bins I found that I made when I was running 42# injectors. They would be a start for your tune. If you want me to emial them to you send me a PM.

Re: Tuning Help

Ok, they are 40 # injectors with a Kenne bel chip. I'm puttting the stock injectors back in this weekend untiil I get some tuning helkp. I'm going to see if Moates can help once I get my DataMaster auth code. Thanks for all of your help! 10.0 AFR sucks!

Re: Tuning Help

That sounds like a good plan. When you do get the stuff you need to do code59 then you can start with the 40# bin Rob has and get the AFR alot better pretty quick.

Download and use my 40lb BIN over at '59... it runs great, no troubles.

Re: Tuning Help

I'll try it, will it work with the ultimate chip? I do OBDII tuning and go straight throught the ALDL so I haven'nt messed with OBDI much. I'd like to keep the ultimate so I can change fueling and timing on the fly. I love the AEM wideband and boost gauges I put in with the new turbo. They were a litttle expensive but worth it. I'm registered on code59 so I'll download the bin this weekend I might need a little help with the flashing since bought everythig you could ever need to program from Scott DT but I still need the auth code for Vista for DM. I'm sure he's just busy and it's a shame TTS won't give me the code. :( Thanks for the help guys!

Can't use code59 on an ultimate board without some funky wiring.
You'll need a moates adapter and a flash chip or an ostrich to get it done.

I've got the board with wiring, push buttom remote to change fueling and timinng, Moates Ostrich, chip burnerr and other goodies from DDT. I bought the best tuning equipment Moates had.

Rob's bin will work with the moates stuff. The Ultimate box won't work with the moates stuff without re-wiring the cable and specially programming a chip for the G3 adapter.

It can be done, but it's a fair amount of work.

Download the bin, load it into the ostrich, plug the ostrich into whatever moates board you have, and go.

Re: Tuning Help

Sounds good, I'll give it a try. Here's what I have for tuning: Datamaster S/W, Ostrich EMU, ALDL cable, Moates GP1 and a flash-n-burn. SCotts working with me on the datamaster right now to get it working with Vista. Here's the controller I have http://www.moates.net/product_thumb.php?img=images/ex_v02.jpg&w=108&h=150 EX Remote Switch /w/LED
Remote switchbox for multi-bank setups like the G2X, GX, and G3. Has a red single-digit LED display to show which program bank is selected. It's about the size of a car alarm remote, with pushbuttons to select from different memory banks. Comes with 6-foot ribbon cable for remote mounting. Here is a video illustrating how to operate the unit: http://www.moates.net/tutorials/new_ex_v01.wmv

The selector won't work with the GP1... You need a G3/GP3 to use that.

You don't need to use that at this point anyway, as you'll just be loading bins into the ostrich for now.

Re: Tuning Help

Thanks for the help again guys! After looking at what I have I don't believe it's an ultimate like I was told. It has the moates controller so I'm not sure what I have. The only S/W that came with my tuning hardware is the Datamaster. What do I need to flash? All the hardware is still in the box so I'm fixing to pull it out and look at it since it's all still in bubble wrap. I guess I need to go to code59 and start reading. I've gotten more offers for help here than I did at HPTuners when I first started and that means a lot that the Sy/Ty owners care about helping each other.

The only thing you need to flash is the 'flash n burn', a chip, and Tuner Pro to modify the BINs. Can you post a pic of what is attached to your ECM? That would give us a better understanding of what you're working with.
