Tuned Syclone first setup - HELP ??

Hi Guys,

Please first off i have searched and searched on the forum for this answer but to no avail, i am just confusing myself.

After 4 YEARS of rebuilding we have finished Sy 519 it has passed the government MOT safety test in the UK but it runs absolutely rubbish. I have lost my Syclone manual and have just bought another one but its gonna take a while to get here.

All i need to know is what should the timing be set at for an initial setup, i have no idea what to start at, i have checked the timing as it stands (when it was stock from 4 years ago) and with the new chip in place and the other parts bolted on i have a reading of 27 degrees at the harmonic balancer. I am sure this is wrong!

The spec of my Syclone is as follows:

PT52 Turbo
3 bar map sensor
Ultimate chip
atr double pumper
atr exhaust
Mccoys air/air intercooler
Mccoys induction kit
33lb injectors
fuel pressure regulater
msd leads

My questions:

1. From start up how do we set the initial timing with the new parts bolted on, what should the degrees be set at (advance/retard), do we have to pull the tan wire to set the timing with the Ultimate chip fitted ?

2. Does the ultimate chip need any initial setup or is it plug and play ?

3. Why is the red led knock light on permanantly on the ultimate chip guage, even on tick over (we have set the guage to T115, the lowest setting)

All i really want to know is what do i do now, i had a reliable stock Syclone 4 years ago, i have invested alot of money and now i have no idea what to do, i got no instructions with any of the parts i bought so i am flying totally blind (thats why i have hit this brick wall so to speak)

Please somebody help me set up my mildly tuned Syclone, i have read everything i can find but i need help

i believe with the tan wire unhooked timing should be at 0deg. sending PM to you

Yes... as described above.... Tan/black or Tan/White tracer. It is located on the pass. side where the engine harness comes through the fire wall. It will be the wire with a single connector and taped out side the main harness. Pull back the carpet in the middle of the floor board up towards where it meets the heater box. Follow the main harness up and you'll find that wire.
Unplug the wire and start the truck. The check engine light will come on. This is normal. Set timing to 0deg on the ballancer/timing marker. Tighten down dist. and shut truck off. Plug the connector back in and re-fire up the truck. Your CK engine light should be out. If you do not want the code stored then disconnect the battery for a few min. and re-connect.

I'd be concerned with running a pt52 turbo with 33lb injectors also.. I believe that turbo could possibly run 50lb injectors lean in a good tune so 33lb injectors to me seem extremely undersized for this truck.. just my two cents

Thanks Boostedpimp,

I know they are small now, i didnt know when i bought them but Jerry at Mccoys said for a standard engine truck they would be fine to start with. I appreciate all advice though.

I wouldn't advise taking it much past 13-14 psi. It's probably lean even then.
