tooky comparision

first off, i'm not knocking what tooky did. we both did a vortec conversion but got there different ways. i was looking at his and decided to figure mine up just to give a alternate method or ideas to those considering it. and no i don't have time slips because i'm still sorting out issues with mine. and yes i probably caused them myself by working on it when i shouldn't have been. i've included shipping and such in all prices.

complete 2003 vortec engine 425
intake mod 230
gas to pick up engine 20
arp head bolts 60*
gm mls head gaskets 40*
crane 1.6 rockers, arp
studs, 875 lifters 425
fel pro 1203 28
tb gasket set 6
planeum gasket 12
12pt intake bolts 13
4x4 oil pan 50
twist tite fitting 15
hose/fittings 50
---------------------------------------------------
total 1374

*bought in a package deal parted out and ended up actually with 0 in these items.
the 875 lifters were just a sure why not thing. i did add a bunch off extra shiney objects that are included because they weren't really neccessary and i'm not sure if i want to see that total.

i didn't get the cam like tooky did but my engine came complete w/ rockers and intake.

FWIW, all the Vortec motors I have seen go for at least $800. I didn't read what Took wrote up on this but can say I had a hard time shelling out $800 for something I wasn't sure about and that would have been just a little bit better. But, thats a decent deal you got there.

Re: tooky comparision

i got the price partially because the dizzy was broke and it didn't come with a ps pump, alt or ac compressor.

what's with the headgasket? why didn't u use a victor reinz?

i think they were with a gm stamp on them.

I'm interested in these "GM MLS head gaskets" - do you have a part number or source? Where did you get them and what is the original application?

Re: tooky comparision

i don't have the wrapper any more. i bought a big lot type deal of parts and these were in there. they were in the gm type plastic bag. and i'm sure it said mls on the part number label and 4.060 bore but i'm not sure after that. maybe a gn hi po part?

Re: tooky comparision

you already put the heads on? you might be lucky and still see a PN between the heads and lower intake

Did you take any pics when you installed the head gaskets? Like this one of my stock Victor head gaskets, for instance:

i'm hoping something like that once i upsize my turbo. my deployment budget ran out right before i ordered my turbo....and i'll probably slip a bigger cam in it once i get it smoothed out.
