This is what happends when a nonSyclone block is used

This is the motor out of Ricks truck that we pulled this weekend. The motor is a GM replacement and was a regular 4.3 block that did not have the nodular iron caps.

This is precisely what I encountered (in addition to major timing chaing slack and broken ring lands on one piston) in the GM replacement engine in my Ty.

Makes the rationalization for 4 bolting a block pretty simple.

is that turbo damage from the cross-over intake falling apart? Damn, thats the worst I've seen come off a sy/ty.

Couldn't have been making too much power with that chewed up heap in there.

How about the pistons/heads on this motor? I remember their being a question as to if they were even using the proper compression ratios. I'd hope after all the fun that atleast he got some l35 heads outa the deal.

Yep there was a piece missing from the crossover tube and to me it looks like the turbo ate it.

The heads are regular LB9 throttle body heads. Its funny the motor has two differnt rods which makes me think that there is a more involved history on it. The shitty parts about the way it broke is that the main jambed up the crank. So we could not turn over the motor which made gettting the flexplate to TC bolts a bitch to get undone.

well, when i threw 3 rods out the oil pan it sounded like the tranny dropped out of the vehicle

We had to undo the tranny bellhousing bolts and pull back the tranny as far as possible. then we used a 15mm wrench that Tony has that is Made to work on 6.5 turbo desil trucks that is about 14" long. I Did the wrenching from down below and Tony guilded the wrench on from the top. Once it was broke Free Tony finished backing it out from the top. We usually have a truck stripped down in about 4 hours but this held us up some.

hope you're asking them what the hell is wrong, I'd be screaming at them or at the very least calling an attorney. If you havn't all ready be sure to ask them if they shipped your motor off for the core yet, that way you've still got a good block to play with. [/u]

Is it just you and Tony that work together? From the board at least...

Yep me and Tony are partners on all the builds. Cam Scott (CAMSTY) comes over as well to watch and learn.

Naw this truck has gone thru 2 or 3 hands so who knows when the motor was installed. The owner bought the truck with a new motor in mind from the beginning. We have a fully build motor sitting in the garage ready to get dropped it and run some 10's 8)

I had the same situation on a Sy I bought with a blown engine, #3 cylinder turned to dust and locked the motor up solid.

Armstrong tools makes a set of metric gear drive wrenches that are very long, very flat, and very thin. The 15mm was perfect to fit up in there to reach the "invisible" bolts. I had to put a small section of pipe over the wrench to get enough leverage to break the top bolt free. I highly recommend this set of wrenches - they have saved me dozens of times.

10s motor eh, what are you putting on it? (just curious as to if I have forgotten to pick up anything I can't live without when I'm gathering 4.3L parts)
