Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

To say I've been in it for the long haul would be an understatement. I came to the very first nats many years ago as a fellow enthusiast with my red Syclone, bullet hole and all. I left with many great memories and knowing I had met many great people and life long friends. I've been around to witness Ivan the terrible ripping several people off and the many different soap operas that have occurred over time.

I believe this year was my forth nationals and most likely my last for no reason other than the division between a club who at times seems to loose sight of what the club is all about. The advancement of syclones and typhoons in technology and knowledge of improving the different performance aspects of these vehicles.

For those of you who don't know me my name is Jared and I am from Colorado and part of the Bully crew. I haved witnessed and participated in a project that at one point never seemed as though it would materialize at certain steps of the process. You could not imagine our enthusiam to finally be able to be a part of history in building a truck with the attention to detail and innovative design as what you've seen in the Bully Syclone. Before anyone has any misconceptions I will say that my part in the build is minimal and all credit goes to the owner John Frey. As you all probably know our truck that was here to compete in the Pro class and was not completely up to par in regards to tuning. Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast when it comes to not enough time and money and all having lives outside of our hobbies. We were really hoping to put on a better show for those in attendance and for that I apologize. We are all very impressed with the performance of Robert's truck and had only hoped to help make the event competitive by entering another pro truck. Regardless of the outcome it was fun to finally make some passes in a truck that had not been able to due to safety regulations put in place by the NHRA and the truck being primarily built to street race. Needless to say those NHRA regulations have been satisfied and we will continue to improve the driveablity of the truck to enhance its performance or lack thereof depending on how you look at it

I would like to thank those who were supportive in our efforts and lended a hand when willing and able. I had only hoped everyone could have been that supportive of our efforts, but like years of past there still seems to be a core group of members that can't set aside there ego's and animousity for the better of the club. Regardless of what some people may think I am probably the most unbias opinion available here on the forum considering I have not read any of threads in regards to the nationals or that were posted prior to anyone attending the nationals. I would appreciate it if everyone could let the drama die and simply leave well enough alone in regards to that. Robert's truck was very impressive in its consistency and performance and my hat goes off to him. My main goal in posting was to simply find out if I am the only longtime enthusiast who feels this way about the nationals. I hope that my thread is not hijacked by trash and cheap shots, but it may answer my question if so.

If you have made it this far I commend you and thank you for your time!

Although I haven't seen it in person, I know that truck is one of a kind. There must be countless hours in it. I know there are still some great times to come out of that truck too.

as soon as i saw them i told them I was glad that they came..

their truck is an entirely different beast than roberts and it was great to see it.
Sucks that they had problems getting it to run properly but eitherway it was great to see two insanely fast trucks run heads up.

both trucks are extremely nice and extremely well built...

Nice to see you made it to the Nats, past and present. That is more than I can say! Sorry you had minor conflict with a small few. These trucks require incredible effort and patience to keep running at moderate levels. They require dedicated fanatics with cash to reach peak levels! The average mild mannered car nut is not "On Fire" enough to handle a SYTY. I think the "In it for the long haul" or want to be "Fastest in the Class" people are extremely dedicated and energetic. This can lead to abrasive comments hear and there...
For the 99% of us who had nothing bad to say, can you tell us more about the components and innovations in this SY? What are the basics of the build- Tranny,Block, Heads, Turbo size? What is in the upper heat exchangers- a tube fin set-up, or a bunch of copper coils? Technical discussion of the truck would be an inspiration to many of us, and supportive actions would follow!

I am not going ot sugar coat this, this wasn't a minor conflict of a minor few. We all tried to have an open mind about Bully Syclone and tried to welcome them and their crew. I (and I sure other) were quickly turned off to hear John seemingly bitter and already complaining about Roberts truck and Tech inspection. I don't think he was even there for 5 minutes. The weekend was basic Bully 5 member crew isolated from the rest of us. I am sure they are bunch of gearhead like the rest of us with common interests  I wish this didn't end up being an us vs them event as it seemingly turned out. This was black mark an outwise great weekend.

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

I am piping in here to add my two-cents worth...which will undoubtedly be questioned and refutiated.

I went to Nats fully expecting to bring my truck, but in the end, I was unsuccessful in getting it ready. I came for two reasons: meet some people from the forums and to support my friend John Frey and his truck.

The mood when I arrived on Thursday was pretty good..the first few guys getting in were geeked. I came with my best friend and we both went out and started to talk to people. We got to meet some people, see some nice trucks, you know, the expected things. By Friday, a large group was already here. The mood had already started to swing to an 'anti-BULLY' one - easily mis-classified as a 'pro-Robert' mood. I will expound on that later. I tried to go around and start talking to a few more people, but some were much less 'warm' than I anticipated. On Saturday when John finally arrived at the track, people came over to see the truck, but less than a handful of those very same people had the balls to go over to John and meet him and shake his hand. The drama was as thick as thieves there. The two trucks made a few passes, shit was packed up, and back to the hotel we all went. Saturday, John pulled the truck out at the hotel for people to see. We stood by the truck, and again, lots of people came over to look, but hardly no one came over to talk to John. After a little bit, John went over to Robert and introduced themselves...they talked...it was fine. We all got ready to go to the track, and in the effort to continue tuning, John drove his truck from the hotel to the track (about 15 miles). At the track is where the shit hit the fan.

In these forums, it was discussed that the NHRA rules were going to be FULLY REQUIRED no matter what anyone has posted otherwise. It has been misrepresented that either John or one of his crew tipped off the TECHS, and that is not so. John has spent the last two months getting his truck up to NHRA standards instead of more time on the dyno and it showed. At the track onSaturday, Robert's truck did not pass tech....he was told he could not run. The night before, he ran his 9.06 pass, and the tech guy (staging official) saw that and on Saturday, did not allow Robert to run. There were so many people pissed off at John for this, and unjustly so. We did what we came here to do.....had problems with the truck...sputtering and missing, bad tune. We used the time there to make a few passes with the truck and get some things figured out. All the while, Robert and Jeff Scott kept petitioning to allow Robert to make a pass...he came all that way. After a good few hours, the track official allows them to run no faster than a 10.0-pass so he can qualify for the event. He makes his pass (10.7X I think) and parks it. We keep tweaking and trying a few things. Before you know it, eliminations come around, and even though the TECHS said the truck was not up to specifications, one pass was allowed. Now when the eliminations began, he was allowed to run in that also. When the two trucks ran against each other, Robert ran a 9.16 and you would think by the reaction of the crowd, that everyone was just handed a check for $1,000,000. The shit-talking took no time to start. I heard people laughing at John's 10-second truck.....I heard "it doesn't matter if Ed was here, Robert would have kicked his ass too', 'I wonder what excuses those losers will come up with now'. This is behavior that I would not have expected from you guys here. There were a few guys who came over and thanked John (officiating crew from Nats and others) for coming, and that was very appreciated. Saturday night, after just about everyone left the track, we were still there. In the efforts to find out a few things, John pushed out a head gasket - everyone's heart sank. We pack up the truck and head for the hotel. In the parking lot, again, people were having a good time. When we all come out of the hotel and go talk to a few people, the talk was shitty to say the least. The general consensus was that John was the reason Robert had such a hard time at the track with the officials, and THAT fault lies solely in whoever told Robert that his truck would tech out fine. There was a particular conversation between John and some shit-talking guy from Chicago that I swear to you would make you guys sick - people from this very forum to act in such a shitty way. Everywhere we went, the looks we got. We could NOT hang out with everyone else because they didn't want John and his crew there. Period. No one would come up and talk to him. No one gave him two seconds of time. It was pretty F***ing sad to say the least. I walked around and talked to people, and until they saw that I was a part of John's very small group, I was accepted. And now I feel that I will forever be chastised for being there for my friend.

I am glad I was able to get to meet a few of you guys...the NM guys, thanks for the great conversation...you guys are outstanding!

I had the chance to talk to Robert and Anders on Friday before shit went south, and the both of them are great guys. You have a very nice and fast truck!

People can talk and say whatevere the hell they want - the truck DID NOT PASS TECH! It was spoken here that it would not pass tech. That;s it. Period. I dont care what you say or think, that is that. And for people to hang their hatred of John or his accomplishments on the lack of preparation on their behalf? And make snyde comments about John's slow 10-second pass? Which one of you speed-racers have a truck that ran faster? Anyone? All you did was shit-talk for NO REASON. Since when is a 10-second pass...popping and missing and falling all over itself NOT an achievement? John was equally unprepared, but his truck met the track rules, and because of that, he will always look like a sore loser, trying to hang his hat on a technicality.

For those of you who actually know me, the pleasure of meeting/knowing you has been all mine. This will be my last post on this forum. My email address will be given to a few guys on here in the event they want to get a hold of me for anything. I will continue working on my truck, just like Ed, John Gerber, Mike Lee, and countless others, in the background. I might see a few of you at local area events, and that would be great. But like many others in the past, the b.u.l.l.s.h.i.t is the reason why I am leaving. I will no longer be checking my PM's, so dont even bother.

It is truly unfortunate that the conflict occurred at all and the end result is that we all loose. These are some of the things that keep people from coming to events like Nationals and consequently the most important thing is lost....... the trucks.
Unfortunately, in this situation as in most, both parties have responsibility in how they handled the beginning, middle and end. Nobody was blameless.

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

Jared, it was good to talk to you again and to John as well. Thanks for making the trip with the Bulley Crew. Like I told you and John, it was cool to watch that thing make some passes. I wish I would have stayed and got the 10.03 on tape. Once you guys get that thing dialed in... wow!

It was cool to see Robert's truck in person too. They are just two totally different animals, that's for sure. A single turbo V6 that could suck up small children spraying and a twin-turbo oddfire V6 that just sounds wicked and has the looks to match.

Roberts truck on slicks launches all quiet and composed, John's on the drag radials launches like a.... I don't know what, it's just insane.

Sure, it wasn't completely tuned, but an AWD 10.03 pass is still wicked fast and was a lot more impressive than all the high 13's and 14's I have on video.

According to SyTy.net, Hoovers still have the US trophey with their 9.004 correct?

Who's to say what the next year will bring? It still amazes me what you guys can get our turbo bricks to do.... I just want mine to start and run!

When you make 10 - 10 second passes popping and missing. Unable it seems to be able to figure out your big "street racer". It must lose a lot of street races running like that.

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

Mike Tate (Turbotater green/grey Ty) and I came up and knew very little about the bespoken drama about the two fastest SY's to turn up at what was my first Nats.
They were both awesome works of talent and skills. Both aproached and engineered differently with spectacular results.
Irregardless of the final performance outcomes......it was still incredible and great to watch. I dare say "NO ONE" was preoccupied in the stands or on the ground that didn't STOP and watch in anticipation and excitement.
That was pure enthusiast interests at that point and moment. :p
I couldn't stop thinking of how HARD it is to get to the point of BOTH of these teams of friends. The frustration, time ,money and effort......had to require HUGE tenacity and we all know it.
Everyones perceptions are their own. I certainly enjoyed mine while there. I met alot of great people and will be back for sure.......And I certainly hope The Bully team returns as well. I also hope they realize that irregardless of any negative reports that might have been thrust their way......from slower truck owners ,I'm sure........that they be told , most of us were quite impressed how they hung in there and relentlessly tried to get a cleaner pass and improve. I know Mike and I were.
Pride aside for all........great event, I forgot to vote, Ate some rotted Swedish fish( thanks Anders), started some great friendhips and look forward to the next !! Hope everyone makes it home without incident.

CarbonFiber AWD you are THE MAN! The way you downed that fish was classic. Brush your teeth would ya?

On another note, a few of the bully crew actually opened up and talked to Jason and I for a few minutes last night. But overall, it was almost impossible for everything to be "cool" after what went down on these forums. What a blast though, may have been the best Nats so far...

Can we get some pics uploaded of Vinny eating the fish that smells so bad it clears a parking lot?

OMG.......Road kill HAS GOT to taste much better than that fermented Swedish Herring .I have NO idea how Anders and Robert snuck that $hit through TCS security ! :squint: I'm sure there is a law against it.
I can STILL taste it. I think I'm ruined. I imagine Renz could tell me if it tasted worse than a really fat chicks crack juice on a July hot day ?? :rotf:
For some reason, I've lost my voice too, :( ........thats good if you ask some ! ;)

Re: Thanks for the support from the Bully crew!

I guess if you had ALL the facts Alex your post might make sense.

When I went over directly in front of you, introduced myself to John, commended him on the truck and got a cold shoulder it was strike #1.

Strike #2 was his whinning last night to syty nats crew like running to mom and saying "Johnny hit me". I walked by as he was complaining about tranny blankets, etc. He obviously has as much clue about what safety equipment Roberts truck has as his tuning.

Strike #3 John was overheard by a good source saying he would "HAND Robert his ass on a platter!"

Just for the record, the track plain and simple said we couldn't run past 10's. End of story. We agreed to that. In the finals we felt that a full run was worth getting kicked out of the track (which we did) as that is what people were there to see. I also confirmed someone on the bullyshit crew did call NHRA. We wanted to get in SEVERAL passes and make a SOLID 8 second pass, that was not allowed due to the issues. Robert and I drove his truck back to the hotel, on the street happy as we could be with his truck, and what had happened.

The lack of sportsmanship from the CO crew was amazing to me. Robert, the swedes and myself all agreed to come in with an open mind. We didn't hold anything again the crew until they showed their own true colors.

I am sorry but nats doesn't need that attitude at the event or the board anyways. This is by far the worse nats for tension in the 8 I have been to. IT didn't come from nationals, and I am 150% confident we brought the fastest and safest truck to ever step foot at the nationals.

Tech at track and the rules for the classes are not the same.

If you think his met NHRA rules, you better pull that manual back out, it is next to the fuel tuning manual which obviously wasn't handy either.
