Morgan,

Glad to hear you got it back. Hopefuilly in one piece, motor and trans still in tact.

I am also very interested to hear what security measures the thieves had to get past to get your truck.
GMs are easy targets. The most vulnerable point in our trucks is the plastic coluumn IMHO.
Anyone swap out a metal column and how tough is it?

The security feature on the Ultimate chip removes any power from the fuel pump, and it is key lockable. That has got to be one of its finest features, and was probably the easiest to program, Lol.

At least I would recommend and aftermarket alarm on a backup battery, AND a club / Car Gard / Brake lock, some type of physical deterrant.
If they can't just hop in and drive away it will likely drive them on to someone easier.

Hope everyone goes out and double checks their security strategy after reading a sad sad story like this.

TOO bad the cops won't lift the prints off it. I guess they don't understand how important these are to us.

Seriously?? The cops here are bad about stuff like that. When my S got broken into and my stereo got stolen, they tried liftng fingerprints at the scene...at 6 AM even. You could bet I was surprised.

They used to hang horse thieves, What's the difference?

just think they used to hang people for stealing one horse, in this case they stole at least 280!

like everyone else im definitely interested to hear how they got passed the ignition kill and the other security devices.

once im done with the extensive security upgrades on my truck, im convinced the only way its getting stolen is on a flat bed! even then, i got an alarm pager, so ill be out to my truck kissing skulls with my 6 cell maglite, before the sy is even on the flatbed. :x

i guess the only thing you have to be grateful for is that you got it back.

Morgan,

Was the ultimate in Valet mode?

i no longer have the ultimate, i sold it cause it didnt like my truck.

but anyway, i got the truck back today around 2pm. it was in ALOT better shape than I had imagined, and the cops nor the towing company can believe more shit wasnt taken and/or the truck torched. They stole my entire stereo except for my EQ which they just decided to fuck up so bad it could never be used again, they stole both my tool boxes, my digital camera, my spare tires, my new Optima battery i bought on Saturday.
The steering column is fucked, the dash needs to be replaced cause they broke all the support stuff in it. My power seat doesnt work anymore nor do the fog lights, my IC scoop was smacked upwards and my front neon tube is busted (i know ur all crying over that one). The rear tailgate lock was pulled out as was the passengers side door lock. I ended up buying a junkyard battery and rigging it back up to the cables. The truck started but wasnt very happy, it took me about 5 mins to get it to idle, not exactly sure what the fuckers did to it. The trans seems kinda ok, but it has been getting softer as I have been driving it.
Unofortunately I cant touch it until the insurance people come and check it out, and I couldnt get any pictures since my digital camera is gone. Im gonna see if I can borrow someones camera tomorrow and go down to where its locked up and snap some pics off.
Other than that, I am just making a list of stolen items and trying to figure out what Im gonna do next.

Also, the guy at the body shop thought that regular Jimmys didnt have the tray under the dash, or it was different somehow, can someone confirm this by any chance?
Other than that, I cant really tell ya too much more, but the truck was found less than 3 1/2 hours after I found it was missing. All in all not too bad....
Hopefully I can get things back to normal by the NATS.
Peace everyone.

The tray on dash is same for other trucks. I had to replace mine. Found one in junkyard, but should be available through GM no problem.

Glad to hear truck is back. Did they happen to catch who did it?

i was told whoever took it wore gloves. my mother talked to them while i was trying to get it running so I could drive it home...

It was parked around Drexels campus, aprrox 33rd and Race. It was found in north philly on Dalkeith St., about 7 miles away.

Greg-
If you happen to have number for the column and the dashboard and any of the bezels around the radio, the glovebox, ect, it would be a huge help. Im not sure what exacty is gonna come when the shop orders a "dashboard". Thanks for the help. Im gonna try and take a few pictures tomorrow.

Jegs or Summit or JC Whitney (I can never remember which catalog has what) sells a metal shroud that locks around the plastic one. Probably a little easier to get past than replacing the whole unit with a metal one, but easier and cheaper to install (and to remove, if you want to).

Yeah that shroud is the CarGard.
I think Jeff scott knew one of th guys developing it and used to get an awesome deal on em.

He did say awhile ago if you want one you better get it now b/c they are going to stop making them.

It is a key lockable shroud that covers the column and must be removed before the vehicle can be driven.

The brake pedal lock looks good troo, but I forget what its called.

Either one of those devices would have saved Morgans truck.
even a club prolly woulda helped.

Morgan, found my estimate for the interior damage, unfortunatly the did not put the #,s for parts on it. When the shop damaged my front bumper their insurance company,s estimate had part #,s on it, sorry. But when they did replace the dash, they also replaced undamaged parts of the same type of finish(glove box door, ash tray) to make sure the color would all match.

Sorry for not catching this post before and you probably already have done the repairs but I went through this after my Ty was broken into. They broke all of the supports out of the center of the dash. They stuck a prybar through the hole for the light in the glove box and ripped the whole center of the dash out.

It took me two days and a lot of reference to the Helms manual to get mine done. No shops, not even the stealerships wanted to do it. The glovebox door comes with the new dash as well as the ashtray so they all match. The bezel around the radio is separate and the color does not match the dash so don't worry if it looks a little darker.
If the shops try to charge you extra for the ashtray and the glovebox door, don't pay it as the dash comes with all that when you order a new one. The new dash I got had a fuzzy finish on the shelf instead of the slick finish it had originally. I liked the fuzzy better

Lots of luck and I'm glad you got your truck back. Just let the insurance know that stuff isn't right when you go, like the tranny and such. They know theives beat the hell out of them and you shouldn't suffer mechanical expenses because of whale shit freeloaders of our society.

hey, thanks for the post. Actually the truck only got looked at on thurday or friday, so i dont think the repairs have even come close to being started. I unfortunately havent seen the truck since Tuesday when I picked it up from the yard it was stored in and brought it to my apartment, then down to the bodyshop. I was gonna try and go get pictures on Friday, but school kinda interfered with that, so who knows if I will get pics or not.
Either way, im not worried about the bodyshop ripping me off, its owned by my fathers cousin, and very ironcially, owns a 1992 Black/Black Ty. I also had one our fellow SyTy friends offer my a spare radio bezel for free, so i might just take him up on that. But for right now, I gotta get on the phone with everyone and try and figure out the next step.
Wish me luck guys....i'll keep everyone posted if anything interesting happens or I get some pics.
