Re: Stock Turbo Record 10/15/03: 12.26 @ 108.6 w/1.72 60' Max RPM: 4650
Looking to start something? I'll bite.
I usually log in once every 6 months, so given the 03/04 times you can tell I don't update my signature often. Just for you I'll remove the word "record" from my signature.
But come to think of it, who holds the record really is in the eye of the beholder, and what they feel is stock. I guess Charles Blossom technically has the fastest "stock turbo" at 11.6x, yet most people don't consider him when you think of "The Fastest Stock Turbo truck".
When I had the stock turbo, I constantly battled with boost control issues and over/underspooling due to the 8cm housing and the stock wastegate. Here's the Datamaster run from the day I broke your old record:
This year, Jeremy (SixIsEnough) went faster than I did, but with a one of a kind modified stock turbo and custom downpipe that allows the exhaust to flow freer, and the boost to be controlled in a far more intelligent manner. (I know because my PTE kit uses the same wastegate design and it works great!). He also had the 4L80 trans which I'm really not worried about. (The groundbreaking of proving the 4L80 strength is more important than debating whether its gear ratios offset its weight etc.).
So who holds the record? Everyone has to come to their own conclusion. I don't care strongly enough to stir up trouble making new threads about the subject anymore, but you called me out here.

I know on my truck, my parts were "Everyman's Parts", all stuff available off the shelf, including the off-the-shelf Ultimate chip (Jeremy had custom tuning). I even wrote (several) novels telling you all exactly how I did it, detailing my progress along the way. The point of the "stock turbo competition" in my mind, and the reason it has always been one of the most hotly contested competitions in SyTy, is because it represents a level playing field; every Syclone or Typhoon starts with the same basic components, and the stock turbo competition is a way to see who can "Get the most from what they've got". I did the best I could with the same parts everyone else was using, and 12.26 was good enough for me. :2cents:
PS: Do Jeremy and I both a favor, and just surpass both our times fairly, post the timeslip, and then nobody will have anything to debate.
