Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

Update 10/22: All the flanges are ordered, and shipped. I have tracking # even. Guy did a quick turnaround and I will be using him again I am sure.

I did source up enough piping for the mockup. So we will be starting this weekend on mockup/jigs. Still have the rest of tubing on order for all the pipes. Hopefully will post some pictures late in the week.

As far as future orders, I will make up any flanges I have left and offer them for sale for slightly more than the GP price, once they are complete. Should be 1-2 of each type left if things go as planned.

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

Jeff, let me know if you have one left. I don't read the board too often, just ran across this thread. Do I get one for the patent infringement? :) jk

You prefer stainless or mild?

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

UPDATE 10/26: Flanges are here, I did manage to find some stainless tube and have more on order.

All the mild steel tubing is ordered, along with o2 bungs. They will be here tomorrow.

Tomorrow and Saturday we plan to really go after the jigs, tooling and start production.

New orders are closed. I had some extra flanges made up, but they are all gone now also.

Hopefully Monday I will post some pictures of progress. Things should be moving now.

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

UPDATE 10/27: Today we got the first prototype 90% done. It is missing the o2 sensor bung.

I am going to need to order some material for the jig I didn't expect to need. This will ensure the flange stays perfectly flat during welding.

Tomorrow morning, we plan to prep all the flanges, start to cut the mild steel tubing that arrived today and be ready when the material for the welding jig arrives. I will try to get some pictures up. I am very confident everybody will be pleased with the results.

UPDATE 10/30/06: Tonight we finally got the jigs, and the 3 mockup pipe the way we want.

Few of the locals have seen the jig setup, mockups, test pieces and they were impressed. I think everybody will find these with surpass your expectations.

I have enough stainless to move forward, I have all the mild so those will be done first.

We are finallizing the jigs, probably start production tomorrow.

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

UPDATE 11/5: Yes they are taking longer than I hoped, but at the same time I am making sure the quality is not going to be an issue.

As I mentioned I have a buddy who has welded for 40 years + helping on the project, so him and I work on it as schedule work out. Friday we spent several hours and got all the mild steel top sections tacked, and several of the stainless upper sections tacked.

Monday we plan to tack some more stainless and start fully welding them up.

One word of caution I am noticing as I test fit, and develop all new tooling. The pipe is 3" and obviously bigger than the stocker. If you have bad motor mounts you could have some frame clearance issues in particular as the pipe goes underneath the #6 plug, and above the frame. My test fixture involves a complete front section of a frame, with engine, manifold and solid motor mount. In that setup I can slide my hand between the frame and the pipe. If you have a bad mount and the engine is slide down any that clearance will be reduced. I can't anticipate if your motor is sagging and dropped into the frame. Just be aware of that.

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

Hey Jeff you notice any clearance issue's between the starter and the downpipe? Say against a stock starter or mini?

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

Nope, you wont have any issues there, all testing is done on stock starter (largest)

Finally got some pictures for everybody. You can see progress is being made and I have a big mess.

Tonight more welding of tubes will be happening.

Re: Stock Turbo 3" Downpipe

The flanges have the 4th hole, so you CAN drill and tap your housing if you choose. I will provide instructions.

If you don't want to tap it and don't have any leaks then it isn't needed. Easier for me to add it now, then you try to drill it out later.

I will get pictures of how to modify the exhaust housing also for the best boost control possible with stock style setups.
