Re: Some cage pics

I hope you are not wanting to pass tech or get the cage certified. Because our Trucks have a frame (vs Unibody) we are required to have the mounting points pass through the body and be welded to the frame. The pics look as if you have the mounting points welded to floor plates.

Re: Some cage pics

You need to be careful with the weight comments. My truck has a sever complex when it comes to its weight and is currently doing everything possible to shed a few pounds.
You better bust out the chromoly tubing and the tig welder brother!

No, the plates cover where the tubing goes through the floor and to the frame.

Everything was done to make sure tech and certification was not a problem.

Only question I have, which maybe you can answer, is does the seat have to mount to the bar behind it? Or is that a certain ET range?

Re: Some cage pics

In the rule book it says anything with a bar or cage needs a rear back brace but I would say its one of those things that can slide on anything 9.0 and slower it seems

Re: Some cage pics

yes side to side bar on rear hoop is right behind the seat, just like it calls for.

Technically, if you have a stock seat it is to have a brace that snugs up against the back of the seat. If your seat is back completely against the bar that works also. If you are using aluminum or fiberglass seat a brace is supposed to be attached Bolted/welded to the seat. This applies for 9.90et or quicker as full cages have to be installed at that point.

This is how I did mine. I can adjust it if need be by pulling a pin and sliding it.

The certified sticker on the roll cage certifies the cage. The seats and all that other track stuff is a track tech issue. The seat mount fall into the track tech and it just depends on how picky they are at tech. I have run expired seat harness and no tech has ever even looked at them. Same thing goes with most of the safety rules. Most of the SFI required parts are never even looked at, but in reality may be expired or not even installed.

I completely agree with track tech being lazy. However, the mood of the tech guys around us seems to change with the wind and will either not look at the car to tear it down on a whim. Mike doesn't like me pushing him to do all the sfi stuff and to follow the tech book but I got bounced at a track for not having a fire jacket with the syclone when it had a stock turbo. Dude must have been pissed that day since the rule is for aftermarket turbo setups not stock installed ones.
