You can get fake looking mufflers as well as cat converters. No perforations inside. They are for inspection purposes. Seen quite a few vehicles with them. Still loud as shit. A good Magnaflow muffler won't rob that much power over a straightpipe. In this day and age people should atleast make their vehicle look legal.

The dump doesn't have to be under truck, you could route side exhaust etc with it in that, and have a muffler going out a different direction.

But as stated a magnaflow does'nt rob much if any power.

Some cops just like F'n with people, period! They get on these power trips and wanna exercise it, unfortunatly not for good. It's the gun, trust me. I used to be in the military and when I stood watch with a side arm or something even bigger (M-60 Rambo style) I'd question anyone about anything regardless of rank just cause I knew I could shoot your ass if you got outta line. I had a selective process though, people that were dicks to me, well, they're the ones I'd question or in your case F**k with.

I have a friend who got a DUI/DWI with not even a single drink on her breath. But she just let the cop arrest her without asking for a supervisor because she thought she could do nothing. It's like COP said earlier on this board, question everything (if it's a lame reason) and ask for a supervisor always. If its a BS stop you're more likely to be let off since calling their boss down for something bogus isn't exactly in their best interest, + now you got THEM waiting around with their thumb in their ass. If they wanna play games, get in the game and play em right back.

Looks like you guys have zoned and timed noise ordinances (location and time based). Depending on where you were and at what time, the permittable dB could've been as low as 50dB or as high as 80dB. Pretty low stuff, IMO. When we autocross in Atlanta, the max dB is 95.

I'd read the following sites and educate myself and then challenge it (if you have a case):

Looks like you guys have zoned and timed noise ordinances (location and time based). Depending on where you were and at what time, the permittable dB could've been as low as 50dB or as high as 80dB. Pretty low stuff, IMO. When we autocross in Atlanta, the max dB is 95.

Damn Mike, you found that a hell of a lot faster than I ever would have. Interesting reading. I knew most of this but how odd the officer would tell me Im impounded for BOTH. He lied as far as I can see. Its been explained to me by other officers that if you are ticketed 3 times in one year you have to see a judge and if you have to see that judged 3 times in one year, they can impound you r car. Ill look into it further. This town really sucks sometimes. I was oput paying bills this morning and drove next to a cop for about a mile and he never even looked over :dunno:

Mike I think the guy has a hard on for ya, I have been pulled over NUMEROUS times with open exhaust, infact all i have had on my truck for the past year and a half is a dp and every time I get pulled over they never mention the exhaust......just the brown kid driving the real nice looking truck LOL, and I dont know why people keep saying Co springs is a small town, its VERY well populated and growing.

The only thing more stealthy than a Sy or Ty is a quiet Sy or Ty. I have flowmasters on my Nova, and they're gone the next time I do the exhaust. My Vette has SLP stainless mufflers and theyre nice and quiet yet free flowing. I like my Ty quite so it is keeping its stock style 3" muffler. It doesnt cost much HP at all when you use a quality piece.

When he told you to leave with your truck just sitting there you should have told him no. He has no right to tell you to just walk off. What would happen if he got a call requireing him to leave, and something happened to your truck? It is still your personal property, and infact you could have rode down to where ever they took your truck in the tow rig.

Within the time it took to get the truck back where they stored it, you should have been to the PD requesting to speak with his Sgt, or his LT. Discussed what has happened, what is happening and tell them your sick of it. If he was any kind of cop, pulling up your license plate could tell if you had insurance on your truck. He didnt need to see your card. I've had this happen a few times. No big deal, he was just trying to be a prick. And the first ticket he should have wrote you was for a fix it ticket the first time. Then you'd have 30/60/90 days depending, to have it fixed.

Dude, if the cop remembers your name. Then you either live in a very small town, or your've done to many things to where people are reporting your truck to the police and they are on a look out for you. I'm willing to go with the later on this.

Yeah when he told me to leave I was taken back for a secind, I acutally didnt movce and kept arguuing for a few then he got pissy with me. And so did the other guy. They probably are on some kind of lok out for me. Theyve been to my house a month or two ago saying some lady saw swerving in and out of traffic and that I cut her off. Im not really one for swerving and if I cut someone off its usually casue they wont let me in when Ive had my signal on for two blocks or they cut me off first. All in all I dont think I really drive that bad at all. Im usually pretty mellow and I try to drive the speed limit the majority of the time. I wonder if I am on some kind of list, I wonder if they would tel me if I called and asked.

I'd definitely file a complaint against the cop. Worst case, he retaliates by harassing you, but oh wait, he's already doing that! Besides, once you've started a paper trail, subsequent pullovers are going to look worse and worse for him each time you complain.

Make sure you charge something specific in your complaint. Some ideas that come to mind are: abuse of authority, lack of professionality, harassment, abuse of process, discrimination (if he was a different race than you), lack of courtesy, and lack of conformance to the law.

Probably fighting an exhaust ticket is similar, except it would rely on some kinda sound meter. If this cop is a different race than you, consider filing a motion for discovery (or a subpoena duces tecum) when you fight the ticket requesting data on the race and gender of all the people the cop has ticketed in the last 6 months or year. Then compare that to the demographics of your community and you could build a pretty good discrimination defense if he is disproportionately targeting certain people. Maybe threaten to go to the press with the statistics if they make the cop look bad for any reason.

Just some ideas. My local cops are the exact same way, and this kind of crap pisses me off! :rant:

That really sucks! I've been to Colorado Springs alot and I know there's tons of cars with loud modified exhausts. And you're right. They will NEVER pull over a super loud Harley or custom. I have a DB meter if you need to borrow it.

I know my buddy had a problem with an officer in California and the guy kept pulling him over for stupid reasons. In Cali though if an officer pulls you over 3 times or more thats harrassment. So when he was pulled over the 3rd time by the officer he had his partner walk up to the car and write the ticket. He still filed a complaint and the guy hasn't gone near him since. I'd fight it anyway and go talk to a judge, there is no reason to impound a vehicle when you even offered to have your wife come down with the insurance info. There might not even be a law requiring mufflers, just to be within a certain db level. That really sucks man, I feel for ya. I'd be furious if he told me to leave my car.

Well, there is your answer. The only thing that saved your ass that time is the fact that it takes the cop to personaly witness you doing something inorder for them to cite you for it. (Other then a hit and run, ect.)

And if that is the case where they have people calling in and complaining about your truck, then odds are when you take this to court. He might just have those papers stating that they've had complaints about you, how many times the cop's pulled you over, and for what reasons. But, do like others have said and test your truck to see how loud it is.

But dude, relax in your town. Its only going to get worse before it gets better if you keep trying to fight the system.
