Sounds like you got lucky, you could have ended up with a totaled truck and a fatal accident. When I want to go fast I help my friend out with his IMCA Modified circle track car (700hp on 110). No pedestrians or cross traffic to worry about

Man I've got to say it sounds like you're getting off a bit easy compared to would have happened to you here (Ontario Canada)

Penalties for street racing, stunt driving and driving 50 km/h or over the speed limit

Pre-conviction – Immediate 7-day licence suspension and 7-day vehicle impoundment

Upon conviction - Minimum $2,000 and up to $10,000 fine, 6 demerit points, up to 6 months jail, up to 2 years licence suspension for a first conviction

On top of all that your insurance doubles for 5 years. It's almost more severe then drinking and driving.

Why else do people buy fast cars? So they can sit and rot in the garage? Or take to the local drag strip to race a 1990 honda crx with plastic windows that runs a high 18?

You only live once, i've seen street races in Colorado where they pull in the Helicopters and swat teams.

The only time i've almost got in trouble is once I raced a 94 Mustang Convertible with my GN, and of course you know the outcome... he was an undercover/offduty cop that flashed his badge as he flew by, which was complete entrapment if he tried to report it.

And the only time a cop was a complete dick to me was when I was driving through a Colorado state park, speed limit was 25, and I was going 32 or something (downhill with brakes on), upon coming to my car, he set his metal clipboard on my hood, which I freaked out, and said "do you need to scratch it all up".... his quick response was "its hard to keep these cars under control, they have a mind of their own". In the end, a $150 ticket and a scratched hood :)

Anyone willing to wear the uniform is an ass. There is no way that I could ever devote myself to upholding the ridiculous laws that our country & states have come up with over the years..

Whoaaa, cowboy!! I am betting you wouldn't like the results of a lawless society at all....and to think what I always wanted to be was a State Trooper.

Well then, enjoy being on the receiving end ;).

Just as with anything, you have cool people and you have assholes.
Reminds me of the video online where dude on the motorcycle was speedballing through traffic on the interstate @ 100+mph. The trooper pulled him over and dude was saying to the camera "oh shit, ooooooh shit...I'm going to jail". Cop came up, gave him a short verbal warning and told him not to do it again and let him go.

Then there's instances where cops think because they have a badge, they are judge, jury and executioner.

Not saying I trust any law enforcement, but there are several who wear a uniform who are down to earth and use the laws of common sense vs the laws on the books.

I happened to drive by and saw his car pinned to a telephone pole. Note that this guy wasn't even racing, but showing off while leaving a car show. This is the reason they have laws against being an idiot behind the wheel. No, you didn't kill anybody, no there wasn't anybody else around, but the laws don't apply just between the hours of 9 to 5.

I'm sure we've all street raced from light to light. This is one of those times where you got caught. It sucks. I'm sure you will think twice next time (not saying that you won't do it again either ;-) )

You're the kind of idiot that will scream bloody murder when the cops don't respond fast enough when you call them for someone breaking into your house, stealing your car, whatever the case may be...you said there was no way you could ever devote yourself to that kind of career, so until you're willing to walk a mile in their shoes, you should keep your whiny-ass, cry-baby opinions about cops to yourself. Be thankful that there are cops out there willing to make those sacrifices and still be willing to deal with cry-babies like you. In case you detect a note of hostility in my reply, my wife was a 911 dispatcher before retiring last year so we have a lot of friends still in LEO. I'm in the military AND I used to be a military policeman, so I must be a raging ass in your eyes, huh?

This cop thinks he is the judge, jury, executioner and the court clerk. That's was his portrayed attitude toward me. If only one of you guys were there to listen to this guy.

I understand that cops are a much needed part of this country, and I apprechiate all that they do fo rme, but the second I am forced to pay my money to someone against my will, regaurdless of the reason, that person becomes an asshole in my mind, ecpecially when i'm wrong. :)

Actually I have the utmost respect and appreciation for those that serve in our armed forces. Its just cops in general that I can't stand. I've never had an encounter or any type of involvement with military police so I have no opinion of them..
