Never used one, but a hammer usually works good for me. On the blazer and the ty I just use another GM key.

I thought Slim Jims only worked with manual locks? I guess its just like using a coat hanger, you just want to get at the rod that is attached to the lock and pull it back. Make sense?

I ditn't know you could buy them over the counter, at least not here in California. I had to make my own. Every make and model car is a bit different somtiems you have to pull and other times you have to push, and the locking rod is in different places for different vehicles. After you seen them used a couple times you get the idea of how to do it. But really hard to explain in words, I think it's just something you gotta see in action.

Slim Jims are not as good as they use to be.
This is what you need for most cars of today. I have one, used it many times, works like a champ.

I have a J shaped rod witha hook on the end that slide 's down the widow like a slim jim but then goes under the window comes out on the inside of the car and is just long enough to trip the power window switch... pretty handy back in the day....

there a thing out called key jigglers , they work the best... your in in about 10-20 seconds once you get the hang of if. i'll try to get some pics of mine later.

In most states it is illegal to carry or use a slim jim unless you are a professional locksmith. You can be charged with possession of a burglary tool and this is usually a felony. Put a spare set of keys in one of those magnetic boxes hidden under the truck. I have had a set there for 7 years and they have never fallen off.

they also tend to ruin the door locks.
Making it so you can't use the key to unlock that door anymore, that happend to me years ago.
when I took it to get repaired they said it was caused by someone using a slim jim on the door. I also heard a cop here in San Antonio say they stopped using them to open locks on cars because of that damage.
