Should I repaint Aspen TY 767?

As many of you know I recently saved Aspen TY 767 from its previous owner. I just got the broke cladding parts in and now need to decide if I paint the truck while these go on or just leave it as is.

My debate. This is a unpainted original Aspen in survivor condition, but it does not look great, not horrible, but no where near my other Aspen. My painter/buffer said it can't be brought back any nicer than I already did by rubbing it by hand.

She will eventually be put up for adoption here on the board, once I get her in the shape to do so.

My question then is since it will go to someone here, should I spend the 3-4k to paint here right and thus have to sell her for 4k more, or does the community and those who would likely adopt her want her original and un painted for less cash out of pocket?

FYI if I paint her it will be done right and everything but the rear side glass will come off or out.

Let me know what you think I should do??

If it was mine and keeping it, I would repaint it. But if your going to sell it, the future buyer would probably want to see it in it's original state.

If selling it, painting and adding to the price will make it more difficult to sell. The higher price should increase the odds of it going to a "good home" that will treat it like an Aspen should be treated, but it will limit your market and likely add to the sell time. I personally don't think the "survivor" status will be worth much, even with the limited number of Aspens - cars are almost always worth more when they look good than they are in questionable but original condition. FWIW mine was repainted - at least once - long ago in a not-so-great manner, and will be stripped and repainted properly in (hopefully) the not-to-distant future. Then again, I have a reconstructed title so I'm taking some non-stock liberties that I probably wouldn't do with a virgin Aspen.

If you decide to paint, I would definitely take photo documentation to pass along to the buyer - that's the only way you stand a chance in recovering the $. Proving it was done the right way as opposed to a $500 tape and spray will go a long way. (Not everyone can tell the difference by just looking.)

Just my 500 yen.

paint it. Make it nice so you can enjoy it. And if you want to sale, it at least looks nice!

Don't paint it. You won't get your money back that youre investing and maybe the new owner would like the factory paint as is. (I would). :2cents:

I already have a Aspen thats mint, so I really dont need 2 thats why Its going to be placed up for adoption

At the price our trucks are selling for now. Spending the 3 or 4k on paint would be hard to get back.

Not long ago I sold my first Royal Ty. It was in very good condition. And it didn't sell for a lot more than the price you listed just for the cost of a paint job.

Aspen is a rare and desirable color. But the way the market is for our trucks. You have to find the right buyer. Adding 4k to the price tag would probably make selling a little more difficult. :2cents:

leave it. straighten out any mechanical issues. sell it to someone that will drive it and enjoy it.

I think the same, if your going to sell it, shouldn't dump anymore money into it than you have to. Let the new owner decide what they want to do with it.

No rust bubbles on this one, none on the front glass, which would come out, non on the rear glass, which would also come off. None I can see in the 1/4 glass either, none under cladding that I can see which will also come off.

It seems the thought is to sell it as is, so I will ponder that and try to decide a price. At a minimum though I will paint and put on the new cladding and make sure the mechanics are solid.

Leave it as is and if the new owner would like a good paint job let him have you paint it if they want.

save your money, 4-5k in paint is a heavy investment on a truck you are just going to sell. and the fact that its such a niche market you might be sitting on the truck for a while especially if the price of the truck has to cover the paint job.

It would be nice to see an aspen looking 100% fresh but if your just going to sell it i would save your money.

and the fact that my friend and I can paint I would have a hard time paying for a truck that had been repainted knowing that I could have done a complete bare shell paintjob for the cost of materials and my time invested.
