DaveP drives Cali to Miami every year for FAST/Miami in January. Or fly into somewhere where you can get a cheap flight like Miami, Orlando or Atlanta and ride along with someone. I know getting directly into Savannah isn't easy from lots of places.

Hey Hood-

I was just checking out the schedule of events (can you tell I'm excited:D)?

Could we possibly squeeze in a 0-60-0 event?

Sounds like a great idea.

I need to work out a way to equalize the speed among all trucks. I could toss my phone in each truck and once you see 60 mph show, jump on the brakes. Otherwise, we'd be running on the honor system as tire size & DRAC cal will mess with speed results. GPS is the only cheap equalizer (and it has lag) that comes to mind at the moment (unless I borrow my buddy's GA State Patrol radar (but then we're radio'ing to the driver)).

Ideas? Thoughts?

Brake stop like jeff participated in at the run for the hills race. 2 cones starting line, 2 cones finish 60' away and 4 cones directly behind finish line you have to stop in. Time starts when you launch and time stops when you cross finish but must stop in the 4 cones.

Distance may be the way to go. Speed is just too difficult to do w/o proper equipment. Good idea Dennis.

I can ask the autox timing coordinator if they'll set that up for us. Otherwise, it's me and Dobrick on Blackberry stopwatches like Nats '09.

I have a radar gun I use for testing installed radar detectors. We could run honor system but use the gun to confirm. Trust but verify.

This would be the way to go I agree. Less involved with managing it all. Good idea.

Since we've revived this thread, I want to mention that Adam and I aren't resting on our heels. On the contrary, we're hard at work securing sponsors, working out details, and getting commitments on donations for raffle. So, look for many more posts coming soon. Also, look to the sytyshindig.com website for updates to the schedule and other things.

it would really be better I think to get the drag racing done during the day, that track last time was super slick.

Hearing you on FM, but you do have to realize that was a very unnatural temp drop for us last year. They had a big race in Jeffersonville that same night and none of the local heavy hitters were around. As a result, the track didn't put the money/effort into making the surface ideal.

In fact, I had to keep checking with Ron throughout the evening to make sure they were even gonna run. His response? "If you guys are coming we'll stay open." So, yeah, the track with crap last year, but TBH I didn't expect a whole lot more considering the circumstances.

Weather is always the great variable in car shows/meets. Say a prayer that we get good conditions in 2012. Adam, and I are working on the schedule of events, but it's looking like drag racing will be Friday afternoon/evening this year. The AutoX will be all day Saturday. More details to come soon.

You gotta stop working on that goofy VW before you can get anything done on your Ty.
