Re: Run through the hills 2011

Not that I know of, next year I heard rumors of a TV show following the series.

Rtth events are a pretty big deal with the pro touring* crowd, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the sponsors were doing tv spots for someone. That's really great you did as well as you did.
some pics posted over there - http://www.ridetech.com/info/2011/09/run-thru-the-hills-vii/

This is Hector's truck isn't it? I'm curious how he made out,

What is really too bad about the tread wear rule is I bet a lot of the competitors were running bfg kdw's rated at 200 but in actuality they are probably more around what you were running.

That looks like a lot of fun Jeff! Kudos to you for getting involved in these events... not only do you get to compete, but you see a lot of other nice rides as well. I can only imagine every event gives you more insight as to what mod to make next to the Ty.

Re: Run through the hills 2011

Got my video clips edited last night and uploaded. Stayed up way too late doing it but o well. Could have gotten more fancy with the editing, added music more effects but in the scheme its probably best the way it is.

As far as mods, its more of a fine tuning at this point. What air pressure works, tire pressure and more important driver skill improvements. It would be interesting to get the tuning tweaks I need to get dialed in for autocross done and throw one of the better drivers in my truck for a lap. Would give me a good feel for how poor I am as a driver and how good the truck is capable of.

That looked like fun, I have some new background pics!

That is Hector's truck in the pic above but he hasn't updated his build thread yet so I'm not sure how he did

Awesome video....gotta love the GoPro's. IMO, you EASILY have a potential 2-3 second drop in your fastest elapsed time on the autoX course. I'll tell you how when I come see you with the Sy :).

That video look nice and smooth , very reminiscent of an old lady doing laps at walmart looking for the best spot .

Re: Run through the hills 2011

So it appears my autocross times got me in within the bottom 10, just barely though.

Because I can I have a couple excuses.

My ty has never been in autocross before.
Only my 2nd time driving an autocross
Decel enleanment needs major work, truck was loading up on decel.
Alex weighs a lot as a passenger.

But with all that said I am still very happy. Honestly the truck has a lot more than the driver can handle and with more practice hopefully I can close that gap.

Jeff, no doubt in my mind you can place in the top 10 with some finesse. That Ty is bad to the bone!!!!!!!!!

Re: Run through the hills 2011

Was great to have you out with us at RTTH's. I was running timing for the autocross event.

I kept trying to find the time to meet you and talk about your Ty, but was pretty busy helping out with the event. Maybe next time and dibs on a ride along lol.

I wasn't able to watch every run you did but I did notice a bit of body roll, might shave some more time if you weed some of that out. Plenty of the guys there would be happy to ride along and give pointers too. Hopefully we will do the autocross school again next year on Friday like they did this year. I ended up doing the cruise, but a lot of guys that have been autocrossing with us for years said the school was a big help.

The biggest thing these events strive for is "FUN", sounds like you had a good time!
Hope to see you again next year.

Re: Run through the hills 2011

I made it a goal of mine now that my typhoon is mostly done to put it through several different racing events. It started last year with the open road course in texas, earlier this year I did the day at the strip put on by Bowler, and as of last weekend the Run Through the Hills event in Pigeon Forge TN.

Having been around the syty world for awhile now, 14yrs I think. Making sure my lawn chair doesn't move away from the cooler has somewhat lost its thrill to be honest. I enjoy drag racing greatly, but why not push my trucks envelope further and me as a driver in other directions.

First off thanks to Alex for tagging along to be my pit crew. It is so much easier in the events to have a helper and Alex pulled through. From changing spark plugs, a bit of tuning, camera on/off, etc.

For those that sat home and did nothing this weekend you missed a great event. Yesterday I saw them give away ~$4k in gift cards and a set of custom Forgeline Rims another $4k in value. (my ticket was one frickin number off).

There are 3 racing events, autocross, drag racing, and speed/stop. (1/8 mile race but you must stop within 40 ft after finish line)

The only real rule they have is a 200 thread wear or higher rating tire. Which for me sucked as I have 180. You can still run just not eligible for prizes and awards (this turned out to suck badly for me as you will see).

Saturday was Autocross. Having never done this before in my truck I was not sure how it would turn out. Lets just say I had a great time, didn't take out a single cone and put what I would say were respectable times. 54 seconds best lap for me. Event best lap was 45 and that was what I would call a full race prep c5 corvette. My times were right there with most of the people.

Sunday was drag racing/speed stop.

My best drag in 1/8th was 7.4 (the winner of event was 7.6 being I was disqualified).
GRRRRR

For speed stop I ran an 8.9, (winner of event was 8.8). Now with this said I had burnt a spark plug wire during drag race so did this event on 7 cylinders. Even with that my time would have netted me 2nd place (and a significant gift card).

Along with the speed/stop they did a top speed via radar gun. I do not know my times, but the winner averaged 78-80mph. Being I ran 92mph in 1/8th earlier I suspect I would have placed well there also.

I did walk away with a $250 gift card for mustang parts (good thing my brother has a mustang).

I will be back next year, and most likely with tires to conform to the rules.

Hopefully the rest of you guys that made sure the couch didn't move this weekend had fun.

It was great seeing you and your Ty at the event last year and hope you can make it back this year. I am the one who had the white Buick T-Type....I placed 30th over all out of 80 vehicles that were entered, not too bad for a 3,500lb Brick! Look forward to seeing you this year..

Here were my times:
Auto-X - 51.84
Speed/stop - 9.70
drag - 8.00

Re: Run through the hills 2011

Glad you stopped by, i hope to hit RTTH again, kindof sad to see the drag racing not an option this year. Curious how they plan to fill it up, if its 2 days of autocross or ?

I am good friends with Bill Howell (the guy who ones "The Toy box" and since the people who ran the track before were run off it's closed but I spoke to the track owner and he said he would let Bill still hold his event there if he wanted so it's up to Bill at this point.

Jeff. my family and I will be there this entire week at a resort in Pigeon Forge, primarily because the annual Fall Rod Run is the 13-15th. Will definately schedule this in the mix and might even switch hit the Aspen in place of the Syclone since it is better equipped for Auto-x. Will know for sure the beginning of August but regardless, I plan to attend at the least

Sorry to hear the ty is dead. I know you were having some problems up at mid west muscle car.

Good luck getting it back on the road!

Put a new Holley ECM in right before the event and was trying to figure out if it was working, etc. Turns out I think an injectors was plugged, leaned out a cylinder (hence some popping I didn't understand was going on prior to my main issue) which then leaned out a cylinder or 2, probably hurting ring land and or hole in piston.

going to let it sit for awhile, got 2 customer trucks to finish and other life projects with more priority right now.
