Please hear me out on this:
If you know of a local owner or person that you have sold or may be buying your truck, please inform them of this site and the http://www.sytyarchives.com/links/ . You have to admit, general knowledge of these trucks is not well known outside of the community and we could really guide these people in the right direction of info/experience they need to help them enjoy their new truck, maybe before they learn the hard way. I just read of two new owners with major issues which possibly could have been avoided had they known what's really going on with reality of these trucks. :dunno:

It almost seems like these people hear glory stories of "these trucks are so fast etc etc" then buy them, get excited and race everything, run it hard for their friends, and before 2 weeks has past, it's busted. I can't say I blame them for that but you know as well I do that MOST of these trucks can't take the constant punishment, like say..maybe a Camaro or Chevelle. . I strongly feel that the new owners could prevent some major truck issues with some syty education. (bent wheels, vacuum lines, purple wire, etc) If they know of this site, it may give them a great starting point to learn what they want or need to address on their truck.

I'm posting this in hopes of our new owners/members can really keep the excitement of ownership going, and that they too can have their fun at our events, and contribute to great post on the site, by realizing (with our help) what to and not to do with the trucks. I hope I didn't offend anyone, as it's not my intentions. I'm just a long time owner/enthusiast that would like to get a thought/idea that I had posted on here for consideration. The more trucks we have on the road, the more members we could have on here to contribute to a great site, and the positives go on from there....I'll end this post at that. You guys are great and keep up the great work, and let's make the best of this Forum for all the owners!

Re: Promote the forum

The main problem I have seen is that a lot of new owners think they already know everything already and don't even bother. I know of 4 owners here in my town that do not get on here. They also don't know shit about their trucks. I have tried several times to get these guys on here but I guess internet forums aren't for everybody.

Re: Promote the forum

the internet is not for everyone . some get fed up their questions arent answered in the first couple minutes , lord forbid someone says something they dont like .

If they dont want to join our small community that care about fixing and keeping these trucks on the road , let them sell and move along .

Biggest downside I see is some noob having to buy the most prestine oem syty they can find , just so they can booger it up and sell it broken 6 months from now . I personally wish sytys were sold in an arranged marriage type setup .

Re: Promote the forum

i have met 3 people with these trucks that had problems and i told them about the site. Well needless to say, their trucks are still broken because they still have not been on the site. Some people are just dumb, thats all i can figure

Re: Promote the forum

Just my :2cents: but what I see is some backyard mechanics getting in over their head and expecting some sort of magic from the site. I know that I will occasionally not post because of this when, on the other hand, if the person was close, I'd be more than happy to go help. Easier to explain myself when I can point. :rotf: :2cents:

Re: Promote the forum

yeah your right poorboy
its horrible what some of these trucks go thru within just a few months on ownership and then sold off

some people expect S10 reliability with Ferrari performance without any maintenance
even if you show them the forum or give advise, they still think the guy working in the gas station knows more because they've been going there for years, he's a real mechanic.. lol

Hey DaveP hows it going
This is my first post in a 100 years
ive still got Sy2629 havent driven it in about 5 years but still luv it.

Re: Promote the forum

IMHO it never hurts to be a "spokensperson" for our trucks and this site.
It may not be welcomed by everyone, especially in these economic times when
truck prices are low, parts are scarce, and knowledgeable mechanics
are few but those few owners (or vendors) who recognize the collector
status of their purchase will want to learn more about their purchases.
I mention vendors as well, because its important to continually
seek suppliers who might be able to fill the voids left by
discontinued syty businesses.

I am totally in over my head and the help I have had from people on here IS magic :D

It's a shame others can't enjoy the generosity and cameraderie you get from owning these trucks AND enjoying the site.

Is there not some promo thing the admins could run with insurance companies? If you are a member of syty.net then you get 5% off your policy or something? That way people would join and the site might get some revenue, make the "total" bar creep ever nearer the 100% mark?

Awesome site, awesome trucks, awesome members. Wish I could have met more people in Florida.

Next time Gadget, next time.....

Great points, great ideas, and great feed back. It's awesome that you guys have tried, and it's too bad those people won't listen to you or accept your help. My applause to you all for making an effort. Keep up the great work!

Yeah. I see a lot of guys with no mechanical background buying these, and/or people in college or expecting them to be a DD. I can just about guarantee these will be resold within 2 yrs.

I don't know how you "solve" this problem. We can't be around for every sale, and not everybody cares about the internet. The smart people come here first and learn.... although, some would argue that if they were smart, they wouldn't be in the market for one at all. :)

Before I bought my Sy i found this site and after reading about how much of a money pit they can be I was almost going to pass on it, but I have wanted on of these trucks since they came out and finally had the means to get one. Havent had a problem from my sy but I also dont beat it to death on a day to day basis. :squint:

yuuuuuup.

The person who bought my 92 fit that description. Dispite my warnings about the truck bring a project and still needed a lot of things finished and that SyTys didnt make "the best" daily drivers, especially in college. Even with all my warning, he still wanted it so I put it back to road worthy condition as best as I could with the time and parts I had.

The engine was blown within a month, due to a sticky wastegate flapper from sitting for 2 years (something I wasnt able to test before it left since it wasnt road legal). I took a week off of work, pulled the engine and rebuilt it with him, powdercoated the intakes for free and reinstalled the engine. He was going to compensate me for taking time off work, but after he sold it shortly after it was running again, I didnt really hear from him much and I honestly felt sorry for him and the bad luck it had given him so I never bothered to get in touch with him about it.

He was a good guy and came from an S10 background and had decent knowledge of working on trucks, but the Typhoon was a bit more than he could handle.

These trucks are definately not for everyone. Yes, they can be reliable, I drove mine for 1.5 years daily when I was in college, Ive driven it halfway across the country and back multiple times, yes it did break a couple times but it never left me standed on those long trips. They dont ride or handle like today trucks, they have squeaks and rattles that drive us all nuts and the interiors are cheap and plasticy.... but there is something about them that is very cool too.... one day Ill figure out what that is and why I choose to keep mine :rotf:
