Re: Project: Tony Hyder's Typhoon

I had the line go bad on a oil press gage once and never took a chance after that with any plastic line, that is why I ask.
Understandable. I haven't had any issues (knock on wood) with air lines, but something to keep an eye on.

Header wrap or spark plug wire insulators should solve that problem.

The hose is very close to the exhaust. The manifolds turn cherry red under boost. TONS of heat radiated. There's a reason Caterpillar, Detroit, Cummins, even PAS use a metal line for the turbo oil return. Because the heat of the hot-section and exhaust will burn rubber hose from the radiated heat, but steel will not be affected..

I don't build 7 customer SyTy a year, so I'm not qualified to know what works on a SyTy. My experience is with large Diesel engines in yachts where reliability and risks of fire are taken extremely seriously. An oil leak next to a 1,400º down pipe will ruin your day. In a yacht offshore, it can ruin your life. There's not a chance I'd use rubber hose that close to the turbo snail, DP, or exhaust to carry oil. Instant fire if it burns through. Too risky. I saw the "4-wire" part. It will still get very hot and could burn the layers between the wires.

Sorry, Mike. I don't like rubber hose that close to the exhaust. BWTFDIK.
