Possible Silly Question.

Hey guys,

Sorta new to the syty scheme.

But I have one question...

I've seen S10's pull the front wheels.

Lets take a Syclone...

Give it X amount of Horsepower.

Is it possible to pull the wheels, being its AWD?

If not, Why?

I heard, with Monster trucks, If they break their front driveshaft or lose 4wd, they are not allowed to continue, because, the 4wd, helps bring DOWN the front of the truck, when its in the air. (This is what I have been told, So im not 100% Sure)

I've just never heard of something AWD pulling the fronts, also....

Im assuming they do, but do they have AWD dynos or are they kind of rare? I live near Orlando Florida, So im sure theres places around here, But im just wondering how common an AWD dyno is.

Well the reason an AWD doeasnt pull the front wheels is mostly because like in a monster truck type setup its a 50/50 split f/r and in the SyTY world its a 65/35 slit rear/front so there isnt enough power going to the rear or enough traction to harness the power to pull the front end. Plus with the frojnt propsgaft spinning and the front tires spinning it helps to counteract the natural tendacy to really get alot of lift on the frontend.

With enough power im sure you could make it happen.

of course with enough power anything can pull the front wheels off.

this pic is old (from back in the day before the visor came off), and before using tiedowns to limit the front end. fwiw it was having traction problems in the 12's before we saw this pic which explained why

look at the concrete under the drivers front tire.

couldnt really say for sure as that was back at the beggining of the 2003 season with a chip. truck was at 12.7. saw this pick. then added cables on front and dropped et 3/10ths to 12.4.

we do know that at the end of 2004 right before the axle broke we were again lifting the the front even with it tied down.

Ivan's basically stock Typhoon pulled the front left wheel. I've seen several other near-stock trucks do this or get very close.

I would pull the front passenger tire when i had a stock longblock.... I think the weight trasfer had more to do with it than the power (although power was there).

First time was coming out of a toll booth after the 4 nittos had warmed during the 20 min highway drive.

Shoulda seen the look on the toll workers face as well as mine as I launched out of the toll booth and had to dodge the two flyin cell phones....

Now that is a street truck, yankin a wheel while drivin barefoot!

But one of the last times my truck saw the road I was trying to show off to a group that i could yank then and shot a nice 2 foot flame out of the open dump on consecutive pass'.

It would be easier to do with a Typhoon becuase of the shorter wheel base. If you read through Ed Hess post you will notice he said before the front end limiters. It not is desirable to be doing a "wheelie" with an AWD vehicle, you want the front tires to help pull the vehicle along. If the front tires are off the ground or spinning, AWD is unless and become a hinderance because of it drivetrain losses once your moving.

Well if your concerned about drivetrain loss AWD isnt for you then.. what is it 23% of the power we lose?

But back to your front tire in the air point, your right it isnt ideal, now when i would pull the front passenger tire it would come up only a little.. nothing sick but we noticed when it did come back down it didnt come down smoothly and would spin for a second

When I launch my Ty I get alot of front wheels spin mainly because of the weight transfer i would imagine. But a truck set up for track use such as Ed's would want to be planted as solid as possible or your 60' time will suck as you had not enough horsepower and grip to move the truck forward.

Yeah, I Know its not Ideal to pull the wheels, "Why help turn the earth, when you can be turnin tires" Is a quote I've read.

I was just wondering if it is possible.

Also, In an AWD Vehicle.

Can someone explain to me how all that works when the front is in the air?

Doesnt the front and rear turn at the same speed? Like, You cant just put 4.10's in the rear, without putting 4.10's in the front also.

So, If the front is in the air, are the fronts now turning faster than the rear? same speed? ect...

What happens when the front lands, The tires were spinning 50 mph, now they're landing at 20mph, does that put a huge strain on things, or am I looking at all this wrong?

Pulling the fronts on a street truck = Awesome lol.

in a lower power truck with oem dif in the front its not much of a big deal when tires comes back down.

now make a lot of power, and use a locking type dif in the front and be ready to do a hard sharp left towards the wall or center line when it comes down.

adjusting the rear suspension and you can tune some of the go left out of it. but keepin mind that after you do that you will then break a rear axle as you see in the pic in my sig. btw a front axel broke a milliscend after the rear axel broke

Ok so Basically...

In my 87 Trans Am, Lifting the fronts, Was no big deal, Crowd Pleaser, Did no real harm...


But... Lifting the fronts in an AWD vehicle, With some power to it, will really damage things.
