Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

I am looking at some stronger alternatives for my truck. With that said one is to go to 32 spline shaft similar to what has been done in the past.

I have quotes out to 3 different places to make these don't have prices back yet but quanitity obviously helps drive cost down for all of us.

Being they are not available that I know of now, who would want in on GP assuming price is reasonable.

I will tell you material alone is ~$70 each before any machine shop, heat treatment etc.

They will be 4340 heat treated after machining, final ground after heat treating. Thats the plan.

4340 has a tensile strength in yield of 114,000psi -vs- a stock shaft in range of 60,000psi so about double.

Just need a list for now. Quotes are out for 10 shafts.

32 Spline 4340 4472 Transfer case input shaft, target price $350

4340 32 spline 4l80e output shaft (rough guess price $5-600)

? Quickstop

Note on price: Subject to change I have a rough quote at this time pending me sending a sample shaft out to him, and quantity drives this also. Obviously more we buy the better and those savings will be passed on.

Right now I have 15 quoted and if his rough quote is accurate 350 will be a good number. I may buy a few more to help save us some cash and I know a few others will want them later, of course at a bit higher price since I will have money invested at that point.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

is this for the converter side on the trans? or the input shaft on the t-case? What actually ended up breaking in his truck?

I have a local guy who wants one so put me down for one basically.

I am not looking to make money on this just bring a product to us. I am pretty much done being a business for syty but I still have manufacturing tendacies LOL

Have 3 places quoting, waiting on responses with pricing.

Interested as well pending price of course. Not sure yet but I may have a local source who has apparently been doing it a while but haven't emailed him yet.

also tempted to stock some parts in case my bulletproof 700r4 thinks to be not.

you know im interested, i bought a 27 spline already, but when i v8 it i may need more

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

Just to confirm, the stock ty input shaft is 27 spline, so the Blake trans OUTPUT shaft for the 80E is 27 spline thus fitting my stock transfer case right?

So if I am to use this component I need to replace the trans output shaft as well (rebuild basically?)

Would there be any benefit to having a 27 spline one - could you do that or does it mean a lot of retooling/extra cost?

The stock transfer case input shaft is a 27 spline. So the common/cheapest way to get an 80e to mate up is taking a 32 spline output and remachining it to 27 spline. No material cost just some labor.

Option B is to use a 32 spline output shaft of 80e (no mods) and modify the input of the transfer case to accept it. It requires complete remachining from billet. Well we could remachine the stock input and I may try that for mine not sure yet. This obviously cost a bit more than just turning a shaft down additionally internal splines are a bit more difficult to machine than an external. Add in the input shaft actually has 2 splines.

Option C could be to machine a new 80e output shaft 27 spline out of much better material. Problem is that shaft is a bit over 5" at 1 end, so you have to start with a chunk of steel 5" + in diameter and start machining. (well we could get forgings made but don't ask about tooling cost). That billet is $400 + before we start to machine.

I am looking at ALL possible ways. Waiting on 2 quotes still to come back.

Re: Possible 32 spline input shaft GP

So the 27 spline solution for the billet trans output shaft is $400 plus..

So to make the really ultimate strong combo for this truck you're looking at $150 and whatever for the 32 spline transfer case input shaft and the $400 plus billet transmission output shaft?

I guess those of us that have done the conversion with Blake's kit either need to get the piece you're proposing and replace the trans output shaft as well with a stock 80e one, or just leave it as is.

I haven't bought anything in a while and these GPs don't come along all that often so count me in if this enables everyone else to get it.

I'll keep it in reserve and maybe sell it later if I don't end up breaking my 80e.

So basically, count me in.
