SyTyless......for now!
Re: new here and from jersey

Sytys will go pretty well in the snow, but stopping and steering can be the issue. Snow isnt too bad, but ice will kick your ass- I have the dented rim to prove it. I DD my Ty from time to time, and it is kind of rough in the winter- cladding attracts slush like a magnet, and you CAN NOT kick it off, otherwise the cladding goes with it most of the time. I only had the Ty stuck once, and thats when I dropped a tire in a 1' deep ice hole in a parking lot- My rear LSD isnt working, and it took a GC with lockers to pull the Ty out. If you do DD it in the winter, wash it often! As far as cargo- Skip the big heavy stuff and keep it small. Maximum load rating for a Sy is 500lbs in the bed, so that's the ceiling. Good luck!

I hate to admit it, but I drove my Typhoon daily this past winter. I had no issues with traction, which was surprising considering the Goodyears I was running. You have to ask yourself a very serious question, though, before driving it in crappy weather. Is it worth the risk of either sliding into something, and scraping the cladding off the whole side of your truck, or having someone slip and do it to you? Even worse, what happens if someone does it while you're not even in the truck? Just a few pieces of busted/missing cladding means BIG $$$$$$. With the remaining trucks getting harder and harder to find, I'd really be against using one of these during the winter. But, just my :2cents: from someone who did it, and got lucky the whole winter. I won't be doing it to the Sy, it's gonna sit in the garage once it gets below 50* here. (yeah right )

i live in BUFFALO NY and we get snow lots of it. and ive had the sy for 13 years never never driven it in the white shit eaven once. and i drive for a living as well . i would walk before i drive the sy in snow. please dont drive a sy/ty in the winter it will never be the same my:2cents::2cents: also welcome to the site.

My typhoon has been in the family since its birth. My dad bought it as his daily driver. And drove it and drove it some more. I now own the truck. Stupidly I modified the truck as soon as I got it. Did a bunch of work centered around a bigger turbo. I have owned the truck since 03. I have put less than 1000 miles on the truck since I have owned it. It currently has 274,XXX miles on it. While my dad owned this truck it was maintained by the local dealership. It had the motor/trans/turbo replaced at 185,000. Now on to the part that I take offense to. There is nothing that will magically change when you drive one of these trucks in the snow. If the vehicle is properly maintained, (washing the salt off being high on the list) then the truck will end up looking like mine. Which has had the rust in the normal body parts (doors rear roof above window and quarter seam. IMO the ability to drive these trucks in all weather is one of its best traits. My dad used to drive a plow truck for a friend of ours. He would drive the truck in the thick of snow storms (state of emergency) in order to plow. The truck never once got stuck until a plow truck accidentally forced him onto an off ramp in New Jersey. He had to shovel his way out of that one, but that was the only time the truck got stuck. Now fast forward to the spring and nice roads, and the truck woops on unsuspecting mustang and camaro owners. My truck is still the same if not better than when it was bought, the reason being it was enjoyed. So please don't tell someone what to do or not do. We all enjoy our trucks differently. If you enjoy looking at your truck for half the year, then all power to you, but don't make it sound like our trucks are made out of sugar.

I know that I am not practicing what I preach, but 950 out of the 1000 miles have been in the last 3 months, the truck is coming along, hopefully to spend more of its time being daily driven rather than parked.

stepping down from my soapbox.

Thanks for listening
