Sy's are terrible in the snow.... i've had mine for app 8 years now and my other vehicle was broke down. He!l so i figured the sy with all wheel drive would do fine in the snow!!!! i went about a 1/4 mile in 2'' of the white stuff then turned around and barely made it home.... Possibly if u were to put snow radials like Yokohama Super Diggers all around it would do well....but with performance tires. forget it.....btw i live in Md. and have 2 nice toys 1 is a mid 10sec street C5 FRC..and the other is an 11sec.Sy.. One has to go. so if interested shot me a PM. or e-mail.

sounds like someone needs to learn how to drive in the snow to me. I've driven my Ty through 8" of snow before with minimal issue with my Dunlop SP8000's on my ZR1 wheels, back when it was my daily driver.

i know how to drive....I've driven more miles in the snow than u probably have driven totaly...... U have a Ty NOT a Sy so please don't question me on the Sy.. Plus different tires will react differently on certain roads. i have a four wheel drive blazer that i have owned since new 1989 and it goes through snow like it's not even there. The Ty has much more weight in the rear, and that makes a big difference. So please don't talk trash to me. I am just trying to give a newbie good info....it just might save his or her life. yeah I highly doubt that.
yeah, the only difference is about 300 lbs, even without it I know Sy owners who use their trucks in the snow just fine.
yup, thats why I specifically mentioned what I had on the truck. A wide, summer performance, low profile tire is probably the WORST thing to use, but it still went without much problem.

I'm not talking trash, and I really dont care about the 300 lb weight difference, I know plenty of other Sy owners who would probably beg to differ as well, I just happened to chime in because I saw it and I had the pics online, if they want to chime in they can. SyTys might not be the BEST at going through the snow, but I think a Ford Pinto would be able to go through 2" of snow with no problem, so if youre having some then I would tend to think its the driver, not the vehicle. Take it for what its worth.

My tires are pep boys Cooper specials that are a great mileage tire..and they don't do well in snow-ice.. the one time i drove her it wasn't in 6 " of fresh beautiful snow.... it was only about 2 to 3" of snow mixed with an undercoating of ice and it was about 15 degrees outside. maybe if it was just fresh snow i would have been alright....also being a retired teamster driver of 36years,i ran northeast USA...and loged over
1,500,000 miles without incident. Upstate NY, WV, and Mass. etc. etc. I have had my fill of snow. and I certainly know how to drive a vehicle in the snow. and i won't drive in snow or icy conditions in a vehicle with performance tires who's producers even tell u NOT to.....It's drivers like u that contribute to accidents.
JUST because u have AWD u DON'T have the proper tires to safely drive..Take it for what it's worth.....

i live in BUFFALO NY and we get snow lots of it. and ive had the sy for 13 years never never driven it in the white shit eaven once. and i drive for a living as well . i would walk before i drive the sy in snow. please dont drive a sy/ty in the winter it will never be the same my:2cents::2cents: also welcome to the site.

Hey, welcome to the board!
I'm also from north jersey, from budd lake right near stanhope, hackettstown, flanders, chester, etc. From my past experiences I must say DO NOT daily drive a sy/ty. I've spent almost 3 times the amount I payed for the truck on upkeep in the 3 years ive owned it. The transmissions do not hold up well, they are very sensitive, and the front driveshaft, if stock, likes to break as well. Oh, and this is from someone who does not beat on their car like if it was a stolen Camaro....
Typhoons definately go in the snow. This winter i drove it through the harshest conditions. These trucks just don't get stuck if you know how to drive in the snow, and as long as the snow isnt deeper than the height of the truck obviously. I would not reccomend taking a Sy in the snow due to having no weight on the back tires.
I would also not reccomend throwing stuff like 4 wheelers in the bed of a limited production Syclone...especially if its one that previously was very well taken care of... however, it is your choice....Personally if its to be used that way i'd turbocharge a regular s10, or do a v8 swap in one... but again thats your descision. The number of these trucks is getting smaller and smaller by the day so its hard to find one in good condition.
After DD'ing this truck and learning the hard way, id suggest against it. I'm currently in the market for another vehicle, something i shouldve done years ago when i first got the truck. It wouldve saved me a lot of money if I used my truck as a weekend car. Just informing you before you jump deep into something that might consume you entirely. I bit off way more than I could chew and had no idea at the time.
However, its all worth it when these trucks run correctly. They are a blast to own and drive after the problems are taken care of. Good luck with your purchase, and really look the thing over before you buy it. Maybe you should take someone who is familiar with these trucks to the one youre looking to buy. And make sure you run a carfax on the vin here before you buy.
My truck is always out (wht/wht) and im always in hackettstown on 57 near mansfield theater/walmart and in budd lake so if you're ever in the area and have any questions, you might be able to flag me down... just dont ask for a ride if you want a thrill because my motor isnt even close to working correctly.

yea that's close by, I work at the walmart in mansfield so im always there... when I get the motor rebuilt ill probably be on waterloo valley road near the hospital all the time for Datamaster runs, I'm looking to code59 tune to make sure this one doesn't blow up.
I can also say I'm one to learn things the hard way, haha, thats why I own a broken DD sy/ty

oh good luck on this one, its listed as HIGH performance when they run the vin. a good amount of insurance and also collision is recommended because they would total it in a heartbeat as a sonoma and give you a 1K. my title says GMC Sonoma, my reg says GMC Son. obviously not one, but my insurance is collectors so im covered for 15K. and no you cant get it yet, must be usually at least 25 to get collectors insurance
