Re: New chip update

let's rephrase this...the CODE will be free. the equipment to implement it will cost money.
Let's see.... everything you'd need... (assuming you don't already have some of this stuff)
LC1 Wide-band $219
Moates G1 chip adapter: $80
Flash chip $9
Tunerpro RT license $35
Moates flash-n-burn $80
Datamaser/Tunerpro cable from PPI Typhoon $46
http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32127&highlight=datamaster+cable
Laptop capable of running the software: $200-$300 (Used, Ebay)
MS Excel to run AutoTune $80 (Although I'll be testing against Open Office eventually)
Binary file for chip $0
Various shipping costs: $20
3Bar MAP $70
Grand Total $859. Not really that free.
Now, by contrast, here's what it'll cost you to get a decent chip from someone who tunes:
Datamaser/Tunerpro cable from PPI Typhoon $46
Laptop capable of running the software: $200-$300 (Used, Ebay)
LC1 Wide-band $219
Tunerpro RT license $35
Tuner Fee: ~$300-400
3Bar MAP $70
Grand Total: $1070
Or, option 3:
Buy an "off the shelf" chip supposedly custom burned for your setup: $200-$500
Cost of motor when (not if) it blows: Approx $3000-$7000. (And up!)
Total: $7500 (or more!)
And, option 3 doesn't factor in the fact that you'll be much slower than if you had it tuned.
Bottom line... there is no substitue for a properly tuned truck. You can fool yourself into
believing that a Pitbull or a supposedly "custom burned chip" will work for you, but in the
end you spend much more in trying to find out what's wrong, and you never realize
anywhere near your potential. If you didn't get at least 8-9 chips burned for you after
sending data, you didn't get anything.
What the new code does (or at least attempts to do), is to make it *easier* for the average
joe/jane with basic mechanical skills to get their truck into a decent tune.
If you have no mechanical knowledge or inclination, I'd urge you to find yourself a good
tuner. It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who will fork out $1600 for a
turbo and a downpipe, but will balk at $400 for a good tune. The tune will buy you more
horsepower and reliability than any bolt-on mod you can ever purchase.
