Hey there folks, bear with me on this long ass post. I need help figuring out the origin of the issues on my father's typhoon. It's number 663, made in December of 92. He drove it for almost two years after he bought it without issues but then he burnt up the starter wire and just parked it. When I fixed that issue last week, I noticed while doing a routine tune up/fluid change that there were numerous boost leaks in the intake tubing system and that I also fixed(I just looped all the larger tubes on the throttle body, but the FPR and MAP sensor were already hooked up right), and that the fuel filter was on backwards, which I replaced with a new one pointing the right way. On the first test drive the turbocharger failed almost immediately at almost no boost. The compressor housing and wheel made mild contact and the bearings smelled of burnt oil.
Being a fabricator, turbo hoarder, and lucky as ****, I was able to grab a low mile holset H1C with a twin scroll 12cm t4 housing out of my barn and bolt it up with a handmade 3.5" TIG welded mild steel downpipe and modified oil drain tube. This turbo flows about 550cfm efficiently. That was easy. Time for boosted launches. YEA RIGHT. ha.
Ok, so it now cuts out totally, almost like a fuel cut/rev limiter when it hits any boost or goes past about 60% throttle position. I'm stumped
Also, this truck has a large aero motive fuel pump as I recall and bigger injectors. I don't know how to check if I have the 1,2,or 3 bar map sensor, but it has a piggybacked chip on the ECU with all its labels too faded to read��, and a turbo timer that is disconnected. I don't know what it takes to read codes, test the ECU for proper function, or much else that doesn't involve hand tools (again, My primary experience is as a fabricator not a mechanic, professionally)
I'm located near Huntsville Alabama, if anyone proficient with a sy ty or GT is near. I WILL pay for help. Gotta get this girl running, paint it, and sell it before I get paid so I can't **** around.
