Yes Garnetty1473, before the collapse of gm that was pretty much ballpark for gm/ford dealers in lv. But the cost of living was and still is very high in lv. Fortunately that dealer i worked for has since went bankrupt. It made me sick to see what paper pushers were making when it all came down. I was doing very well as a tech in the used car dept (approx 7k a month) but 6 days a week 12 hrs a day really gets to you after about 10 years. Now im going a different direction and i will be my own boss so i dont have to deal with fat people behind a desk.

One of my friends is considering this, and I went ballistic when I found out. Shes a college student my age, living at home, working part time. Plans on trading in a 92 Chevy Blazer. I pointed out these little details: You will have new car payments to make, and you'll be required to have full coverage car insurance for the term of the loan. The car's value automatically tanks once its off the lot, but you still have to pay it! I told her to try to sell it outright and get a used car instead. Way to go Obama, flushing more of our tax dollars down the toilet and throwing people unknowingly into debit with a feel-good program.

Well, my friend ended up doing C4C, and shes getting a new Hyundai Accent 3 door. We found a loophole though- We completely gutted her Blazer in the dealer parking lot! RF and back seat, ashtrays, sound system, switches, center console, spare tire....nothing was safe. According to the salesman it just needs to be street legal...so off came the grille too. Heads up to those doing C4C- strip your cars down before handing over the keys!

i have a few clunkers and i've actually wanted to buy a new car but call me crazy, I will not take advantage of this program. I have the "clunkers" because I like them. My 85 landcruiser only gets about 10 mpg but i just enjoy it too much.
It's a shame that someone would scrap a rare vehicle for a new common vehicle.

They should have made it domestic only(I thought the same thing) and dont tell me they are build here becuase the profit from that company goes right back over seas:rant:

Ah...if only it were that simple.

The profit may go overseas but they pay US taxes on profits first. They reinvest the profit and produce more cars which require parts (a lot are made in USA still) and they then have the scope to build more cars which they sell in the USA again - more taxes and jobs for you, irrespective what car it is.

Foreign cars also pay a massive import duty to make sure that the US made cars aren't disadvantaged, so by buying foreign, you're putting even more money into US coffers.

It's an economy stimulation, not a panacea and it has to happen across the world to get the GLOBAL recession changed into growth.

foreign cars pay little import tax, and 0% of Hyundais are built here , Heck they only charge them minimal import tax so toyota doesnt use the same loophole they used to use bring the car in 95% together then put the bed on or the bumpers and import them as autoparts

But if the dealer has made a sale then he will have income and pay his rates to a US company and taxes to the US government and pay his US employees who in turn pay their taxes.

These employees feed their US children and pay for food from the US grocery store etc etc...

It's a stimulus plan and any and all cars irrespective of origin are part of it. It is lending a helping had to the US autio industry but it isn't the total solution.

US cars are widely regarded over here as being poorly made. Why should people buy from the US if the US stuff isn't up to scratch? Unless of course you think that you should buy US and US only and always?

It's market capitalism and in this case she found a car that suited her for whatever reasons. If a US manufacturer had built something then she probably would have bnought it but it is down to personal preference as it is a free market.

Only buying and selling home made produce is what the Soviet Union did and look what happened to them.

We have a program similar to that in Canada. Its called "Car heaven" you get $1000.00 for a "clunker" The vehical has to be a 1995 or older, must run, and have been insured for the road within the last 6 months. All engine and drivetrains are removed at a scrap yard from the vehicals and are not forsale.When I worked at the dealership, I was looking at an '08 Sierra. A saleman told me to trade my TY for the Sierra, and he would give me $1000.00 for it in the car heaven program. I told him to F-off! I told him another $16,000 than maybe....but doubtfull.... Anywho I would NEVER put my TYPHOON through such a program. NEVER!!!!!
