Mis-information given

Last week Jeremy and I was getting some stuff at welding supply store. Bottle filled, etc.

Guy behind the counter was obviously new and not stellar with knowledge about anything. Took him 10 minutes to find my name in computer.

He finally gets paperwork done, and asks if that is my Syclone. I responded yea. He then goes on to tell me he had a buick GN. HMMM maybe this guy knows something after all.

"Yea, I had the buick.... it originally had the 3.8 but we pulled it out and put a 4.3L in it. The thing was fast only problem was I couldn't get traction so we installed some traction bars. It was a t-top car and if you did get traction it would break the front windshield and rear window every time. It was cool!"

So now I thinking, ok nevermind.......

So we head out to get new argon bottles and he asked what year it was..... I got to thinking lets have fun with this one...

Me "This is actually a 1990 syclone"

Idiot "Cool" as he is grabbing fresh bottle "Didn't they have a blazer one als, typhoon right"

Me "Yea, some of those actually had buick motors in them"

Idiot "yea"

.....i continued a bit and we left, laughing greatly .....

Anybody else ever give out the wrong information just to change pace? I get tired of educating people about the trucks, this misinformation stuff is much more fun for me..

Re: Mis-information given

:rotf: That's cold, brotha!

Still, it does get tedious saying "It's a '91..it's the only year they were made...and then they made Typhoons in '92 and '93, basically a blazer...with the Syclone drivetrain. Even says "Syclone" on the intake. All wheel drive, too. Syclones came black only. About 300 hp. About 3,000 made." etc etc.

If you ask me how do I get here I get you there but if you ask me how would I get there its alot shorter usually 5 miles minimum. Or my favorite is to send them through a speed trap. :rotf:

Re: Mis-information given

It's even worse with my GT...Even when you come across someone who knows abit about sy/ty's they still think my truck is a syclone even though it says "sonoma GT" in 3 places. I did have fun with some guy at a car show one time though. He asked me the usual" whoa, is that a syclone?!?!" I was like "no, this is more rare, it's a Sonoma GT, only about 800 made and they came with 427 big blocks" Then he said "Really? Pop the hood!" I told him my hood latch was broken and my hood wouldn't open...He gave me a funny look...I don't think he bought it...haha.

Re: Mis-information given

Thats some funny shit, ive dome that also.

Back in late 2002 when i first bought my GT i had had the truck for a few weeks and was at a local car meet with some freinds and had the hood open and these honda punks come over drooling over the "syclone" and i had already gotten tired of telling everyone what it actually was, this was my third car meet stop for the night so i just went with it and told them yeah its a Sy, and they were looking under the hood and kept rematrking about how big the turbo was. It was all i could do to keep from laughing my ass off, i then asked if they wanted to race, and ill be damed nobody, not even a guy in a S/Ced 92 LX coupe wanted to run.

Re: Mis-information given

The SoGTs did come with a pretty big turbo from the factory. :rotf::rotf: Why they didnt equip the Syclones and Typhoons with it is beyond me :squint:

Re: Mis-information given

You guys won't believe this, but I'll share it anyway:

Went to a PepBoys to get some spark plugs. This is back when the ACR42TS or whatever were the BEST plugs in the world for it, basically pre-NGK days. So I go to the counter and ask for those, one douchebag goes "don't you mean 43s?" and then the other kid behind the counter goes "no, 42s are for syclones and typhoons only, they are a real plug, we have some." I was just floored.

I still slapped both of them before I left.

Re: Mis-information given

I usually don't go out of my way to educate people about my truck. If some one questions about it I will answer them unless they are know it all and start correcting me, then I just nod and try to get rid of them with as quick as possible answers.

A month or ago or so, my foster daughter's boyfriend was over. During lunch my wife mentioned about my truck as 'the race truck'. Later in the day, I was working on it and they came over. My foster daughter talked up my truck and asked for the billionth time when she get her liscense (she's 15), could she drive it? I told her my usual never. (As a side note we have had a few moments where she has told me to 'never do that again' and I haven't even done a real boosted launch :D)

So he starts in on my truck, tells me it lacks style. I told him I prefer to keep it looking stock as not to attract attention. I also know his sense of style sucks, everytime we drive past an import with 'stylish' body kit, big rims & fart can he drools over it. He ask me when I added the pillar guage if I didn't want style, I told him they are for function only. He told me I atleast need new shoes  So he starts in the how much Hp does it have, 'a little more than 300', I respond. Him 'that is it, you need more.' I tell him it is quick enough to beat most cars off the line. He tell me about the Accord his older brother is hooking him up with and it should have 350hp, when is done hooking it up. I told him when he thinks it can hold a candle to my truck, bring it over. He talks a lot more shit. I told him talk is cheap, bring it over when he thinks he can beat me at the track. I told him We can race to see when you take my daughter in your car alone. My daughter tells him, don't do it we will never be on date alone :D

Re: Mis-information given

Yeah Dave, and if you had told him a little over 600 HP the Accord would have been 650 HP.

Last year when the MUTANT was in one piece and being driven daily, my brother started talkin' smack about how BAD his Mustang was (I should already know this since I built it for him:rotf: ). I told him the Sy would destroy him in anything but the 1/8. He challenges me to a race and said "name the place and time." I responded w/ "from Columbia to ATL and back right now."

He didn't accept those terms. I was relieved since I would have backed down quickly from that one. I really don't wanna kill someone in a car seat.
